This is an exciting week for Envira! We have been hard at work creating new features for Envira, and we are excited to be able to launch them this week!
The main update to be released this week is our Albums addon – our most requested feature. You will now be able to create albums for your galleries, choose album covers and assign custom permalinks to your galleries as well. In preparation for this, a few things had to change under the hood with Envira that I wanted to make you aware of.
For starters, all galleries that have been created specifically on a post, page or other custom post type will be converted into an Envira Gallery post type. This has to occur to allow the Albums addon – all galleries have to have the capability to have unique permalinks that you can link to. With the current structure, galleries created in posts or pages do not have that option. All of this process will happen under the hood when you upgrade to 1.2.0. We have thoroughly tested this process, but we just wanted to make you aware of what was happening so that you did not worry when you no longer saw your galleries under a specific page. They will be available to be managed from the Envira gallery screen.
This next update also brings along some of the WordPress 4.0 media UI to Envira, specifically when editing metadata. You can now quickly and easily edit metadata for images in your galleries, and you can use the arrow buttons to navigate between the images quickly without having to close and re-open the modal window. You will also see a preview of the image as you edit so that you know exactly what image you are editing.
As I’ve said in the email, the Albums addon will be released on Thursday! Creating albums is super intuitive and easy with Envira. The Albums addon will be available to Pro and Ultimate license holders, so if you don’t already have a Pro or Ultimate license, now is the perfect time to upgrade. You can do that by logging into your Envira account and clicking on the Upgrade tab.
Another huge update to Envira is the introduction of our NextGen gallery importer! You can now import your NextGen galleries and albums into Envira, including your images, tags, metadata and all that other goodness. This addon will come free with any license level of Envira.
You will also see some updates to our other addons as well, including various bug fixes and internal improvements. We have been working very hard to get these updates out, and we are exciting to be releasing them this week. If you have any questions, just let us know through the Envira website and we’d be happy to assist you in any way that we can.
Here’s to making even more incredible galleries in the future!
