We don’t sell presets or receive any commission from the sites listed in this article. It’s a compiled list of all our favorite free presets from across the internet, so the download processes varies for each depending on the website where it’s offered. However, I just tested Green Greens again and was able to download it successfully. Here are the steps I followed:
1. Click the link in this article to go to PresetLove’s website where it’s offered.
2. Click the “download free” button and put in your email.
3. Log into your email and look for an email from PresetLove (check your spam folder – that’s where it went for me). In the email click the button that says Confirm My Email.
4. After that, they’ll send you another email that has a link to download the preset file. It took about 10 minutes for me to receive the 2nd email, but check your spam again if you’re not seeing it.

Hi David, unfortunately there isn’t an integration like that right now, but I’ve added it as a feature request for our team!
To help with tracking gallery views, here are a couple of workaround things you could also consider:
1. Standalone galleries (enabled in your Envira settings), will give all of your galleries a unique URL instead of having to embed them in a page or post. This allows you to easily link to the gallery and track views the same way you would a page or post.
2. Deeplinking (enabled in the Lightbox configuration tab) will give all your images in the gallery they’re own URL using anchor links. So when a visitor views an image in the lightbox, the URL will have “#image-title” at the end of it. Google Analytics doesn’t track anchor links by default, but MonsterInsights does have a 1-click feature to turn on anchor link tracking, which would allow you to track individual lightbox images as pages.

Hi Julian, that’s difficult to answer since it depends on a number of factors including the photo, the platform, and the license type. Photos can sell for a few cents up to hundreds of dollars.
Platforms like Smugmug and Etsy allow the photographer to set their own prices while sites like Adobe Stock and Shutterstock have preset pricing that ranges based on the number of purchased images or subscription plan. For example, a pack of 2 Shutterstock images comes out to a selling price of $11 per photo, but a monthly subscription for up to 750 images works out to a selling price of only $0.26 per photo.
Although WordPress and most browsers support AVIF files, Google Search actually doesn’t support it (at least not yet). That means AVIF images can’t be indexed, can’t appear in Google Image Search, and Google won’t even analyze and index a video if the thumbnail is in AVIF format.
As you can imagine, all of that is bad for SEO. So for now, we recommend sticking to more widely supported formats when it comes to web images, but I’ll be sure to update the article if/when Google does start supporting AVIF. ๐

It’s crucial because sometimes the clients’ expectations and the photographer’s working style just don’t match, so it’s always better to learn about this beforehand so that you could work on something together or just part ways. Wedding photos, no matter how rarely looked at, will always be there in a form of social media posts, printed and framed images or just wedding anniversary Smartshow 3d videos, so you, as a photographer, should be open for communication.

I’m so sorry no one got back to you about this when you originally posted. We’re working on updating outdated posts since the Envira team underwent some changes last year. On the off chance that you’re still wondering about this, I wanted to let you know that you actually can create a new gallery using existing settings with the Defaults addon (available with a Pro license). Feel free to reply or reach out to support if you’d like help with anything else.
I would focus on one camera, zoom lens (24-105mm is my pick), & a strong compact flash, along with several camera & flash batteries in your pockets, & extra memory cards. Manual or aperture setting on camera. Know what setting to use on your flash beforehand. Bring along a backup camera, & one or two portable strobe light with stands, and a flash meter (with spare batteries).
* How do you feel about using things Instagram to promote your photos? Is it a good way to get brand exposure, or is it a bad idea because of the possibility of theft??
I’m still learning On1 PhotoRaw 2022 and love what you can do with all the functionality. However, try as I may, I can’t seem to find the option to add a blank layer that you can paint on with color splotches of your choice to blend onto the lower layer. Is the only way you can do this is to find the color in a texture and mask it out? Not as satisfactory or easy as being able to do it yourself.
I’m new at photography, using my iPhone right now. Can you sell iPhone pics online? or do you need to use 35mm camera? People have told me I have a good eye and should publish a book. So I thought i could sell online possibly. Thanks for any feedback.
I have had good results with a program called Turbo Image Compressor. I don’t like uploading my images to random websites and so I prefer to use offline utilities.
Turbo Image Compressor has a nice feature set such as compressing JPEGs based on a desired file size in Kilobytes, compression quality slider, shrink by max width or max height in pixels and batch processing of course. I like my images around 250-300kb for my web pages and this application is perfect for this use case, I don’t have to fiddle with settings to get the desired file size and it’s very easy to use. I love the plugin…Have the Pro Version on several websites. Use the display videos lightbox layout.. Do we have any control over how the lightbox is displayed ? It has a white line around the video player….Even if we change the gallery lightbox theme it stays the same….
The compression settings option is great. Thank you for that. Could you provide more detail on how the image sizes feature works? I get that multiple pixel dimensions can be generated using the check boxes. I do NOT get how they work in practice. Is there some code that instructs the browser which variation to use? Do all the multiple size variations wind up in the media library?
Hello Alex! I think you have absolutely nailed it but point 5 is what always photographer must perform that is pre-planning of the shoot as that will let us make the final changes as required.
Personally, I believe that giving control to the third-party website is not a good strategy and staying in control of your price and transactions is ultimately a better strategy.
I strive to post only unique content on my site, and this applies not only to articles, but also to photographs. For a long time I could not figure out where to get high-quality photos for my site. I took some photos myself, but I have no special skills and a professional camera. Your article helped me figure out my problem. Thank you for helping me make my site better!
Strongly disagree, dark colours don’t always blend in. If you’re at a beach or winery, black does the total opposite of being subtle. And dressing like a guest blends in far more. I don’t want people to notice me, therefore I dress like a guest. If I am in any photos from either my second shooter, the videographer, or other guests, you barely see me as I’m not dressed like a waiter in all black.

On1 photo raw uses a single database to store all the photos. This is very risky as any corruption to the database will make you rebuilding your database again which is a very painful process. I prefer Lightroom’s support for multiple catalogs as corruption to one catalog will not affect the others, which makes life much easier.
I currently utilize Lightroom 6 and it feels like I’m being restricted by Adobe for their cloud and monthly subscription based Lightroom Classic if I want to update my current Lightroom 6. It seems to me that when I purchased Lightroom 6 I would be able to update that platform. Adobe evidently decided differently and
as a result willl continue to look for a non Lightroom replacement photo editing program as Lightroom 6 would probably be unable to support any new cameras, lens that I purchase in the future. I would gladly pay a reasonable upgrade fee to my lifetime and stand alone version 6 if available.

Stocksy isn t the largest stock photography website, but it certainly isn t the smallest. It has a reputation for being the artsiest stock agency online. That s why it s undoubtedly the site that publishers love to look at when searching for new images.
First….ah – that is NOT a Tucan. It’s a Puffin. Otherwise, good advice for those wanting to improve their wildlife photos. I always carry at least 1 FF camera body and an APS C. The APS C acts as my extender. Thank you for the in-depth article.
Picmonkey is still my go-to app though it offers limited features in the free version.
However, after Picmonkey I love Lightroom for its mult-editing features. Besides, its interface is simple and intuitive.

Thank you very much for the recommendations. I have used several of them and some of them count more impressions, others pay better, in short each one has its own.
Why not just use real film profiles? In 2020 all the film stocks ever made are already digitised by specialist companies (like RNI) and available as profiles for Lightroom.
Personally I use RNI All Films 5 and apply a Kodak Ektar 100 or Kodak Portra 400 profile as a default on import.
Not only they sort out the colors but also render better highlights from the same RAW, prevent clipping if required and do other nice things. Canโt recommend enough.
Completely agree with R’s comment above. Shutterstock should not be on this list!! Their new lowered fee structure of paying photographers 10c per photo sale is an absolute insult.

I’ve developed websites in both WordPress and Squarespace but now will only use Squarespace. I can still customize as much as I want using CSS and HTML, use advanced SEO and usually finish in about the quarter of the time it took with WordPress. An added bonus, I am able to train the majority of my clients to make their own changes to copy or add new images easily, leaving me with the larger structural changes.
There are many online image optimizer. The challenge is to ensure the quality so that there is no significant impact for end user. This has good compression and does not deteriorate quality
Is there any site that one can actually see what the Solioquy slideshow options look like and what kind of slideshow features they support?? I have committed to creating all my galleries in Envira but had difficulty finding a satisfactory slideshow option as most slideshow plug ins were either very funky or could not support captions. Does Solioquy support image captions? For some reason, most do not.

I have an old version of Photoshop that doesn’t have auto blend. How would I manually do what auto blend did on the face in the tutorial, If possible?

CC BY : This license allows you to use the image for whatever purpose you want, but you have to attribute it. If you change the image, you can then change the license to whatever you want.
I came here to find the answer to that the same as Jamie above. I’ve built my galleries and tested where to put the alt tag. They are independent – if you add the alt tag in the envira gallery it will not be there in the media gallery, and vice versa. So the question is are we meant to add them to both places or just one? Or is there a setting somewhere that says ‘take the alt tag from media gallery’ or something like that? Anyone got the answer out there please?
I seem to be able to write alt text for in image in the Envira Gallery that differs from the alt text of the image in my WordPress Media Gallery. Is this normal? It seems that Envira doesn’t pick up on any changes to my image’s alt text in the WordPress Media Gallery. Are these two alt texts conflicting with each other?
I want to replace more than 100 images, just need to replace the file content, their existing names will still be the same as before.
Enable Media Replace is quite cool, but it still doesn’t have the ability to let us select massive files to replace the current existing files (maybe hundreds or thousands of files).
I think it would be cooler if there is bulk replace feature.

I think that such suggestions may be useful for all website owners especially if your main content is original images or photos. I know that some companies even use thew watermarks on their logos to avoid duplications as well as they use their logo as a watermark in original photos and images.

Great list of photo editors. I think the most issues people have when choosing a high-end photo editor, is getting a “complete package” as you do with Lightroom+ Photoshop in Adobe’s Photography Cloud subscription. Lightroom could be way better, and most photographers who want something else than Lightroom, get stuck because they will miss Photoshop. The best current alternative I believe to be Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo is quite cheap and is very close to matching up with Photoshop.
Good Day i am shooting a wedding on a sunny day i turn my subject back to the sun .my Camera settings is ISO 100 F No F4 S/S 4000s i need to use fill in Flash to bring their image out .This will be shoot in Manuel . Thank you so much for sharing the insights. In 3 weeks I’m resigning from my job to study full-time and I now have the confidence I’ll do just fine with my new venture as a freelance photographer.
I’m a hobby photographer shooting with a Nikon D5500. The only site I’ve tried to sell my work on is Shutterstock. Out of ~50 photos uploaded ~20 were approved. Some were rejected for being ‘overprocessed’ when I purposely post processed them for my desired effect. So if you’re a Pink Floyd fan Shutterstock is probably not going to be good for you. Others were rejected for ‘subject is not in focus’. These were vast landscape photographs, where it’s impossible to have everything in perfect focus. Some of these I resubmitted and the new reviewer approved them. This proves inconsistencies in their review process. It just depends on what employee reviews your work and what mood they were in at that time.
Out of the 20 photos that were approved, I have a total of 5 sales over almost 2 years, paid out at $0.25 each. Not counting the time and expenses of going out to take these photos (I don’t count these expenses because I’m not a pro and I was just doing something that I enjoy) I spent 4-5 hours over the course of several days to register, process my photos, upload my material, and resubmit. Now almost 2 years later I have $1.25 from my efforts. Since uploading on Shutterstock, I’ve learned that the older your content gets the lower it goes on search results. Eventually nobody will ever see your work here, unless you keep uploading (current work will only be seen). So much for passive income.
My advice is don’t waste your time with Shutterstock unless you have time and are willing to put energy into constantly uploading, resubmitting, and doing your own marketing, and in the end they will make 10x more than you from your work. If you’re willing to do all that you might as well start your own web site.
Fun fact, making 2.5 sales per year at $0.25 per sale, I will have to wait 2,000 years to make minimum wage for the photos I’ve had accepted at Shutterstock. Oh and you have to hit $75 before you can cash out, so maybe in 100 years I’ll get my $75 if I haven’t been dead for 60 years (which is likely). This is probably what they’re counting on for 95% of their content providers.
Then if I want to cover my field session time and expenses and sales are steady, I’ll be in the black in about 200,000 years. Cheers!

How can you show the burnt areas in Luminar 4?
In LR it’s as easy as pressing “j”, which shows blue for dark areas and red for bright areas.
I cannot find this simple but ESSENTIAL setting anywhere on their website, which is VERY poor in doucmentation!

Very informative article. I would like to recommend to sell photo item on Shutterstock marketplace as a vendor. It’s a huge marketplace and there has many visitors. In the last 6 months, their visit was over 72 million. Really it is huge. Adobe Stock also good but personally I’m not interested in their marketing policy.

I keep getting told that i cant be a Photographer unless i go to collage and spend thousands and thousands of money, But i know that that is not true because i can be a Freelance Photographer and still make money and still follow my dreams i am glade that i have found this website because now i have the confidence and courage that i need in order to follow my dreams to be a Freelance Photographer.
I am enjoying the free version of Envira. But nowhere can I find where to move the previous and next arrows OUTSIDE of the images. And with all the paid featured I see this nowhere mentioned. I am guessing itโs also in the free version, but where oh where..?
A great article with some wonderful ideas on how a bride and groom should pose for a picture-perfect photograph. I found some great insights reading it and will probably use some of these poses for our next photo shoot.
I have a few alerts about some of these websites for people who are just starting:
AdobeStock – Great site. Pays well. Does not accept editorial content.
Shutterstock – Rarely will you get more than $0.25 for a download.
Alamy – Extremely easy to upload. Good information form to fill out for each photo. The downside is that even after being a collaborator for over a year, I haven’t got one download yet. Even though on many of the other websites, I have multiple downloads. Doesn’t let you create collections.
Crestock – I made an account over 6 months ago and uploaded 9 photos for review. They never got reviewed.
500px – Seems like a good website. The only problem is that the watermark they put on the photos is very small. Anyone that wants their photos for web use, can get it directly from the site without paying. This also happens with Stocksy, which I really wanted to collaborate with, since they payout 50% to the photographers.
On1 could be really good but a couple of issues are: Going from browse to edit takes up to 5 seconds and I have an Imac with 32gb Ram. The noise reduction in On1 makes very little difference to photographs. I use Nick Def 2 noise reduction in Lightroom but it’s not available as a plugin in ON1. Apart from these issues, I really like On1 and if they fix the speed issues and come up with decent noise reduction software then I’ll ditch my Adobe subscription for good.
If I bulk resize pictures in WP library that are already used in Envira galleries, will the galleries automaticly use the smaller pictures? Or do I need to make the galleries all over again?
I have been using on1 photoraw now for some years and I’m always searching for something better.
The problem is, I always end up in PR.
Through work I’ve got a Lightroom licence, and every year I give it a try and (just did it) it doesn’t work for me, somehow the program that I did use for years is really to slow, and the green worms you get with fuji are still there.
Is on1 photoraw perfect.
No, because then I wouldn’t be searching for something better, I’m using affinity photo for noise reduction (if I need to). I don’t like the catalogs that are somewhere on my c drive and eating processing power en disk space.
But for the price, support you get from On1 it’s coming close.

I find it totally unethical for any tradesperson or product supplier to demand payment in full for a product that they have not seen.
An advance booking fee is fair enough.
But how can you ask for money in advance for a service or product that doesnโt exist? Payment in full should only be paid for the product if it meets the customers satisfaction.
If the photographer is confident in their product there is no risk to them not being paid.
Image masking/Clipping mask is effective when you have hairy objects like a woolen dress, furry coats, hairy dolls, stray hairs, and so on in an image. It is a useful method of selecting the borders of an image to work on the background. However, Photoshop is an amazing photo editing tool which generates astonishingly beautiful images if done by a professional photo editor. Hand-drawn image masking service is essential for product photography and e-commerce site as the automatic tool cannot ensure 100% perfection.
Well I want to become a freelance photographer I registered myself on different big freelancing websites but still no much success I gained. Please suggest me more things any expert advice to do things better in the same field.
What it holds me back is lens profile support. I don’t have pro lens. 3 Nikons, 1 Sigma and 1 Tamron. And neither is in Capture One. I also miss map (GPS location). And (as you mentioned) publish plugins (Flickr, Google photo, 500px). I can live without a history panel and face recognition.

I have a few copyright questions. Regarding the images in your blog, they look like screen shots of the sites’ homepages. Do we need permission from the websites if we are to use content like you have above?
And what if I want to create a “Best of Show” or “Last-Minute Gifts” blog. Would I need permission to post photos of the products in my blog? For instance, if I include an iPhone as a gift item, would I need permission from Apple to use a photo of their phone? Or do I simply give credit and specify where I got the photo (e.g., Image: Apple)?
This is a great help. I use Adobe Fireworks which works great at cropping & optimizing but it stripes out the all exif data. It can be added back in but there is so much camera data, I’m looking at alternatives.
I’ve sold images through Shutterstock, Twenty20, and Abobe Stock, and tried plenty of other sites including Alamy, EyeM, 123RF and Dreamstime
Alamy are the most picky. What’s more, they literally ban you from uploading for weeks if you upload something they don’t like.
Beware of Dreamstime – you cannot leave! You can delete all your content but they will continue to sell it. Very dubious practises.
Twenty20 and EyeM have, by far, the easiest Model Release methods, and they pay out immediately rather than having to reach a threshold. They also have regular and free missions to encourage you to upload your best on topic images – more sites should do this.
Shutterstock and Abobe – you don’t get much per image, so you have to have sold a lot before they pay out.
123RF – They often don’t review your images for weeks. When you poke them about it, you suddenly find the last 20 were unacceptable. Very slap dash.
In summary, Twenty20 and EyeM are recommended. Shutterstock and Adobe also recommended if you in it for the long game.

I have a question.
On my site I installed woocommerce, and for graphic reasons most of the images are transparent png. These images have already been optimized in photoshop and weigh very little even though they are not small in terms of pixels.
My problem is that wordpress or woocommerce reduce these pngs and worsen the resolution, all this also leads to a disproportionate increase in weight.
I load images from 100 / 150kb and with the resizing they weigh 400 / 500kb sometimes even more.
What do you advise me to do?
I thought it would be better to block resizing and compression for png images. So as to display the original images in all the pages of the site, resized only visually with respect to the design of the page.
I bought the plugin specifically to upload images already. on Dropbox into my media gallery to then use with Feedme plugin in WooCommerce to sell photos.
Everything is set up but no images appear when upload from Dropbox is selected in the Envira add gallery.
My question is – should not plugin not ask to point to a specific folder on Dropbox and if so what is that folder? I had already looked on Dropbox to see if perhaps the API created a folder on Dropbox which it did not.
Same issue here. Just bought the pro version, and added the Gallery Themes addon. Seems to have everything else I’m looking for, but don’t see the opacity option.
The gallery I’m testing it on was originally created in the Lite version, so not sure if that could be the issue.

Good day, I am having some problems with the WordPress crunching all my images which really slows down the process of uploading images. Is there any way of removing the Flash Uploader. I have already added the following code to all the function.php files in my Cpanel:

My husband and I have been traveling the U.S. for over a year now and Iโve been taking lots of photos of the diverse landscape. One of my favorite subjects is old barns. My question is can I sell photos of someoneโs barn without their permission?
I tried so very hard to replace Lightroom with ON1 Photo Raw 2019.2, but the software has way too many issues.
The most serious issue is performance. I’ve got a late 2015 model iMac with 3.3 GHz I7 processor, 16 GByte of RAM and a 2TB fusion drive. Lightroom just screams on my computer. ON1 Photo Raw, on the other hand, is extremely slow: it takes about 2 seconds to build a preview, it takes about 1.2 to 2 seconds for a develop adjustment to display. It takes a good 3 seconds when advancing to the next photo in Develop mode till the system is ready. It takes an extremely long time to export photos. I could go on, but you get the idea.
The next issue on the list is Lens Correction. If I import directly from my camera (Nikon D60) to ON1, there is no camera or lens information (either in ON1 or using Mac OS Finder) If I use Adobe Bridge, the camera and lens info is there (in Finder), but ON1 will not apply a Lens Profile. I can pick my Camera and Lens Manually, but it usually distorts the photo and I have to do a manual correction. ON1 says this is a bug in the software.
Smart collections and filters aren’t really very smart. The only option is “equals” and all rules are inclusive. I can’t do anything based on “does not equal” or “begins with” or “is either one or the other.” This makes filtering a real pain.
The next issue is also a real deal killer for me. It may be because my Camera is relatively old and is considered a pro-sumer model. Any (RAW) photos taken at ISO 800 or 1600 are really noisy. The same photos viewed in Apple Photos or Lightroom display little to no noise at all, and what noise is there is easily removed in Lightroom, but not in ON1 Photo Raw. ISO 3200 photos are impossible to clean up in Photo Raw, but clean up relatively easily in Lightroom.
I’ve purchased Photo Raw, but I’m forced to keep using Lightroom, occasionally using PhotoRaw as a Plug-in for special cases. That seems to work OK. Maybe the next update will fix all this, but somehow I doubt it. The impression I have is that the developers are focused on new features, and not usability or stability.
“Glowing” reviews of ON1 Photo Raw give potential users a false impression of this application. Check out the ON1 forums to get the “real” picture.
Can you please explain the process to batch resize photos based upon size, not on dimensions, as we have a mix of portrait and landscape photos in a folder.
I love your Gallery. I don’t want all the images from each of the galleries to show on one page, just one of the images from the gallery and then click on the one gallery image and the slide show appears. Is there a way of doing that?
Itโs true. The market is saturated and people take their own pictures these days. Itโs difficult if not impossible to make a living or any money at all selling pictures. Most people will find it more profitable to do any minimum wage job. Unless you have a special niche and are extremely aggressive at marketing.

I have a question pertaining to saved image files. When they are saved with the prefix cross0. followed by a set of numbers .jpg, what does the cross0 mean or stand for?
Take a look at pixels.com or Fine Art America, same company. I’ve been using them for approx 10 yrs. $30 year fee, unlimited photos. You set the fee for each photo. They do everything else. Metal, Canvas, Cups, Sheets, Shower Curtains the list goes on. Little effort to use and it’s free for 30 days.
I am new to designing my website. I have 3 photos I wish to place on my home page. I used Imsanity and resized all the photos that I had uploaded to my media section. I placed them on the home page, but they are still different heights. Do I need to take them back into Photoshop and make them the same height before I upload them again?

I switched from Lightroom 2 years ago and while the learning curve was steep to start with, the speed of capture one wins hands down along with the fantastic raw conversion and there are hundreds of thousands of styles not just a few recipes as you stated.
Along with everything else the colour grading is divine and luminosity masking is fantatsic
I just joined Shutterstock and it is very particular. I submitted a photo of a sundog and it was rejected because the sun was out of focus!! Out of 103 submissions, 71 were rejected, some for dumb reasons such as needed to be in english, even tho it is, or the title didn’t match the photo, even tho it does. People in bleachers all need model releases, even if they are wearing sunglasses and are not identifiable. Just be aware if you go here. They said a dog needed a model release!!!
With a site as reputable as shutterstock you can’t just go take a bunch of random pictures on your walk through the park and expect them to approve them. The pictures need to be of good quality and and have simple titles as described by their starter faq. As for people on bleachers and dogs needing model releases of course. Model releases are their to protect not only the person/animal being photographed but it also protects the “artist” and shutterstock. If ANYTHING should happen during or after the life of someone or something you photographed they could bring your stock image up in court and cost the company thousands of dollars and could easily bankrupt you. They’ve been doing this for 15+ years to my understanding. They know what they are doing because they’ve seen and done it all before.
sadly, on1 is only free for a few days, then it’s over $100. The INK package is brilliant, however; Google did us a real favor. Thanks to them and you.
The “raw” isn’t free… however there is a free On 1 that is free. and it’s just as good I like it and use it all the time. go to there website and look under “free” and you will see it.
Nice article, I’m a fan of natural light. Interesting though, in example 5 I actually preferred the shot which was underexposed, has more ‘depth’ to it (in my humble opinion)? You can go too far to remove tonal contrsts, that’s why I’m not a fand of HDR techniques.
Would it straight out be possible for me to utilize Envira Gallery for a knowledge base based on YouTube video answers (my own stuff that I would appreciate present in a knowledge base form)?

Hello I have a problem, I am simply trying to rotate some pictures with this wordpress editor, but for some reason after I do, it changes the file name and the thumbnail for the picture is no longer visible. Any idea what causes this issue?
Plenty of websites are offering money for uploading the images to their website as the pictures which have creativity getting more popularity and money according to that it is decided the price of the photo. Some of the trusted website in which you can trust blindly is Shutterstock as it is most trusted site from my view.

I would have loved some offline utilities/apps. Online ones come with a lot of limitations for free users and recurring monthly/yearly fees, whereas most applications are a one-time buy and you don’t need to be online the whole time to work with them.

Hi Sergio ๐ You can add a caption to your gallery images that has a link to the EDD single product page. But you’d only be able to show the link in the lightbox. Or you could link the gallery image directly to the EDD single product page instead of having the lightbox open. We have a demo of the first option (using Woocommerce but it’s the same concept for EDD): https://demo.enviragallery.com/envira/enviras-woocommerce-automatic-demo-linking-to-single-product-page/. Click any image on that page to open the lightbox – you’ll see the View More Details button (it’s a caption that links with CSS styling for the button) and it will direct the user to the product page. Does that help?

However PhotoShelter is too expensive for a photographer whose starting out. The same functionalities are offered by other platforms like Pixpa. I’ve had an e-commerce store for selling prints with Pixpa since almost a year, the sales are not regular but its an excellent source of side income.
I preferred using plugin than a theme for my Knowledgebase. I have been using Helpie Knowledgebase for my Gallery website and I have to say it has very well reduced my support to a great extent.
What format for people pictures is hardest to edit (to protect our client’s pictures from being doctored) if its downloaded?
Can one build a protection against pictures being downloaded or file format that would discourage downloading?
Hardest to download: .svg (Scaled Vector Graphics). By far. They don’t work like your average image and non professional users will not know what to do with ’em. Your average run of the mill software will not display it, but it actually has huge benefits for online web uses.
Plus, since it can be used as a DOM node-based API it kind of looks horrible and very, VERY discouraging to a lot of potential image thieves ๐
But if it is a format for you really depends on what image you want to display.
There is however no format to prevent downloading and editing of your images. When you put them on display, they will always remain vulnerable to piracy. You can watermark them to make them useless for unauthorized uses (like the big image selling sites tend to do), but if you use them for aesthetic purposes on your site, you probably don’t want to watermark them.

I think it is very important to ask the budget question up front. If the photographer has a wedding menu that is very helpful. Usually the first thing a client asks is how much do you charge for weddings? And it depends on what the client is looking for and how much they are willing to spend for quality photos. As a photographer I have been asked several times to put together either a book or slide show from a wedding taken by “A Friend” and the photos are terrible. The couple would have been better off with a small budget and a good photographer than a friend with a new camera. Don’t get me wrong friends photos sometimes are great, sometimes. If you want a good album or video hire and pay but don’t over pay either. Your budget should be between $150 – $300 an hour and remember some photographers have an hourly minimum.

Hi, do you have any tips to create a more elaborate masonry layout that used diff size images to create a true masonry feeling? I bought your premium option but the layout ends up looking more like a staggered 3-column than a true masonry layout with a few feature images blown up for effect. Can’t seem to get even the basic masonry layout that is provided with the free WordPress gallery. I got your theme for the added functionality and just assumed it would be on par with layout options & not just the ‘theme’ of what the border around the image looks like. If there are no further options do you offer a satisfaction guarantee? Thanks.

Digital photography in itself is a tough job. Moreover, you need to display them right to help the viewer get the real essence. That is where a theme plays an important role. These themes are amazing for a photography website.
I just spent hours activating a bunch of plugins for author boxes, and every single one of them is a huge box with NO options to reduce the size of the box. And they ALL come with an avatar space. Geez, I just want a simple, no-nonsense widget or whatever that’s big enough only to contain “Author: My Name” and one or two other lines. NOTHING MORE. What is it with all the bells and whistles? This p’s me off. Many of my posts are reviewed by the expert source and I want their name/title in the byline under mine. This means I cannot use a global author box. I also don’t want the text inside the post, as this will mess up the meta in the search results. I can’t believe a simple author box for what I want is so impossible to find.

I uploaded an 800 X 200 .png watermark file…Selected (images) in a designated Gallery Title Name, Selected apply, after Apply stopped spinning…Selected Update Gallery….Watermark refuses to render the watermarked image(s)

I’ve emailed you directly from my own email account. We can work from there if you’d like. There isn’t a specific size needed for your watermark needed. Depending on your gallery settings for your images, Envira will size the watermark as needed over the image.
It sounds like your server could be timing out while trying to apply the watermark to the images in the gallery. This can be a limitation of the server settings but we can work on that too. ๐

I went to Shuttersotck full of hope. I register, confirm my mail, and then ask me for my address which is was kind of weird to me, but I agreed. But then ask me for a picture of my passport or ID,… that was all my relationship with them.
I know they may have many reason to request for that but they also are a private site and a passport or ID are really sensitive information. If I have a PayPal account or any other account for received the payment I think thus should be enough.
The worst part is they ask for a fully detailed picture of the passport not only the name or the age.
Finally what is bother the most is they don’t ask for that data in the first step. You have to register, then give your address and finally when probably most people don’t agree to that ask for your passport picture, when they allready have plenty of info about you. For the ones who agreed to that, hope they don’t request blood type or something like that in the steep 4.
There is a reason – people try to post pictures that they have stolen or that infringe copyright – so they want to make sure you are who you say you are – if you get banned it is then less likely that you can just re-register. They are protecting themselves and your pictures too.
Can I use this with a different thumbnail image to what would show as the main image.

Is it possible to resize the image in the Facebook Debug tool? I wanted to use a thumbnail image at 512×512 pixels. The resulting image is much larger than a thumbnail and cuts off. When sharing an image from my post to FB, am I required to use a specific size image? Would rather use a small icon image.

Okay, trying to make sure I understand. Your plugin automatically adjusts the number of columns. I love that. But, if I understand you correctly, I cannot have the image link to an outside page, and I cannot include captions with text links in them. Right? Because that’s what I really want to do.
I’m confused about WHEN wordpress compresses images… Is it during the upload, while in the media library, when it’s inserted to a page, when the page is loaded each time?
I’ve been experimenting with a few “disable image compression” plugins, and none of them seem to have any effect on my image quality. I’m wondering if the plugins have to be enabled before I upload them, insert them into a page or what?

I click on Envira Gallery on the side of my WordPress page, then click on the gallery with the image in I want to rotate, then I click on the edit icon in the corner of the specific image and the Metadata box opens up, but there is no option to actually edit the image or rotate it? That is likely your theme. The theme probably breaks the content into the Continue Reading – but you would have to use CSS to make that link prettier. If you are using the WordPress Read More tag – then you could add the shortcode before the Read More tag (from the WordPress admin). But some themes will break up the content anyway – it really depends on the theme.
Thanks so much for adding that crucial part about inverting the adjustment layer in regards to the layer mask painting step! I was driving myself bananas trying to figure out why my “brushing” was basically like erasing the parts of the layer mask.
I’m a new amateur photographer. I have about 500 shots +/-, maybe less than half are on Facebook. If I wanted to sell those shots would I need to take those down off my board or would I be able to keep them up if someone bought the rights?
Theere whould be an editing option to edit the image itself, brightness, contrast etc, because it would be just easier if I could edit the basics of the image to blend in better with each of our website without having to do it externally
If you did a side-by-side in photoshop or something and uploaded it as 1 image or had a 2 column gallery with an image before then after (as long as itโs sorted correctly), you could probably achieve something similar. Hope that helps!
is there a way to have a video start playing when the viewer hovers the mouse over the thumbnail? I have several 6 to 10 second animated logo videos and I want the user to hover over and see it play without having to use a light box or press the play button.

I’m having an issue where I have changed the compressions settings to 100% so my thumbnails look sharp while my gallery is still compressed. Is there a way to correct?

Iโve installed Imsanity and the default setting is width 2048 x height 0. This doesnโt sound right. What should the height dimension be? Or does the restive just go on width?
In order to keep images responsive, height:0 can mostly mean height:auto;. This way the image height is proportional to the image width. Does that help?

Hi Martin ๐ I apologize, I’m not sure I understand? On the Lightbox tab of the gallery, you can set your caption position based on the Lightbox theme. When using the Base (Dark) or Base (Light) lightbox theme, the caption will always appear at the top. But all others, the caption will appear at the bottom. I updated to the new album addon yesterday and created 19 new albums with 2 to 4 galleries in each. The improvements in loading speed and display are very impressive. The one problem I have encountered is that captions are not being displayed. I have set the lightbox theme to Captioned with Float position. Captions are an important part of my galleries that give visitor vital information. If I preview the galleries outside of the album the caption appear as expected. I hope you can address this bug soon. Other than that I am thrilled with the much improved lightboxes for albums.

I would like to have much more control over where lightbox captions are placed – for example, I have a customer would would like to have the captions appear to the side of the lightbox images. (This would only apply if the viewer’s screen was large enough. On a moble device, the caption would still have to appear under the image.) And it would be nice to have the CSS selectors for the captions more exposed or documented so that I could style the captions without having to work so hard.
Also, it would be nice to implement the feature where you click on the gallery and go directly to lightbox view, without having to generate a plug-in yourself.

As for the click to open the lightbox from a link, we’re working on updating those docs as well. With this release you can now do this with a shortcode. Using something like this: [envira-link id="343"]Link or html[/envira-link]. Just change out the 343 for the gallery ID of your gallery.
I would like to see two customization features for lightbox:
Selective border and border colors around images, with no border or color picker. Width would be nice to, but don’t want to push my luck!
The option to scale down the size of social media share icons. By default they catch the visitor’s eye due to size and vibrant colors before the images themselves.

Do you have tips when it comes to night aerial photos? I’ve always been stunned by night skyline so hopefully I can capture what I want. I guess I need to have a GPS tracker then, it would be much difficult finding a drone in the dark in case something happens out of hand.
Many things can go wrong in the day, so we need to be well prepared. We must have a backup plan (in case of bad weather), charged batteries, blank memory cards, think about the routes and time to get to the places and get a full day itinerary so we know what will happen in the next moment. If possible, we attend the ceremony rehearsal where a large amount of information is gathered about possible positions to shoot from the lighting, the order of the ceremony, etc.
I’m trying to create my second album and it’s been a year since I created the first one. I tried to upload pictures both ways, straight into the Gallery, then into my Media File in WordPress and it only worked to upload them in my Media File even though in Gallery it said they uploaded. But when I checked all of them in my Media File to upload into Gallery, they still didn’t show up in there. In the Gallery Albums, it does show the first picture as a thumbnail for the album file. What am I doing wrong?
Thatโs not Envira. Envira uses WordPress default functionality for uploading so it sounds like a possible plugin conflict or something. Please reach out to support. They can definitely help you troubleshoot this!
I have a site with over 100 galleries. I want to enable lazy load on all of them. Is there a way to do that besides the manual click > config > check box > save for every single gallery?

Envira, this seems so backwards intuitively. Albums are books we slide our photos into. We all have them. We go to a gallery to view art. You could have an album in a gallery, but not the other way around. What is the reasoning behind this?
FWIW, I have to agree with Joy on this. Almost certain that Envira will not change it at this point – would be too confusing to long-time users – but based on the actual meaning of the words “Album” and “Gallery”, I’ve always found this to be a bit counterintuitive.
It might be worthwhile to contact support with any feature requests on updating this functionality. There are no guarantees, but it will be reviewed and discussed!
This method retains the file name I initially saved to, which means when I run the batch it just saves over the same file every time it opens a new one to process. I’ve solved this before, twice, but it’s years between each attempt so I forget how.
Hi, do you know if there is a way to compress more some images and don’t compress others?

Hi Marco, Unfortunately, no there isn’t really. When you set up a compressing function for images, thereโs no way that I know of to only target some. It would be blanket coverage. Anything like that is really customization and is outside the scope of support. Sorry I can’t be of more assistance.
The exclusion wasn’t purposeful at all! There are a lot of themes out there and it’s impossible to cover every single one. Those are both lovely options!
Very informative article. I am a new drone user and I want to capture stunning photos. Been playing around, it even almost flew away but glad I had a GPS tracker device. Challenging and fun at the same time.
I’d gladly suggest Trackimo device. It’s 3G and perfectly works indoor and outdoor. I’ve been using drones for aerial photography and it’s such a great distress when I lost one. Learnt my lesson and had this device with me ever since then. Probably the best option for me when it comes to GPS tracking devices.

After selecting the Duplicate layer and clicking on Gaussian blur, it blurs both the original layer and the duplicate layer. So this method isnt working for me. I have photoshop CS6 on mac
It sounds like either the layers are linked or possibly grouped somehow but thereโs no way it would apply it to both as long as only the one layer is selected. So, the layers could be grouped or linked. Does that help?
We donโt know of any plugin that upsizes images. Upsizing any image can make the image appear of less quality or pixelated as it would be like โstretchingโ the image.
It depends on the state. I live in Washington and I just registered my trade name. That’s all they required for it here. Call your local Labor and Industries to see what they require.
Hello! Everything you’ve listed there is very helpful for making your freelance business appear professional and for protecting yourself and your work. However, it depends on what kind of freelancing you’re going to do. For instance, insurance may not be needed right away if you’re taking photos around your house and selling them on stock photography sites. Ultimately, you’ll need to use your best judgment for what you need to begin. I hope that helps!
To add titles under your images (not on hover but actually under the image) then you must use a column gallery and on the Config tab make sure that the Title is checked.
But there are some other considerations to be aware of. So when we layout a gallery of images, each image is typically linked to open up a lightbox. If you create a caption that has a link and then try to display that caption under the image, the HTML mark up for the gallery becomes broken because Envira tries to build an image that is a link that has text inside that is another link. You canโt have a link within a link in HTML, itโs improper markup. So what is typically best is to show a title under the image on the Config tab (title only), then edit the image in the gallery to add your link/text to the caption field. Then, on the Lightbox tab, make sure you have “caption” selected as the โwhat to show”

Thanks so much for your question. For Envira Lite there are 2 layouts. A masonry layout (which uses any column setting) or the Automatic layout. It can be easy to get confused over the difference between a justified layout and a masonry layout. The difference is (just so you know) is that with columns you can obviously control the number of columns that appear in the gallery. With automatic, you canโt. So quite literally – the only way to create a true masonry column is to use any column count for Envira Lite.

I love the ability to put galleries inside albums and then put those albums onto a WordPress menu using a Custom Link.
However, I was wondering if there were other ways to display the albums. Can the albums be inserted in Posts and Pages? I’ve been trying to find that information, but I haven’t been able to.
My idea would be to create twenty albums (each one containing galleries) and then display all twenty albums on a single Page. Therefore, there would be a single page that contains links to all the Albums on my site. Is that possible?

When using Envira tags I noticed that when I for exemple choose to show all images with the ‘Acrylic’ tag in a gallery it shiws this type of URL-ending:

How can I change that in order to just have here /acrylic as an URL-ending for exemple ?

Hey Julian, the “return 100” will disable the image compression and display the images in original condition. However, you can decrease the value to “90”, “80” or less to display compressed images in WordPress. The code is relevant with the current version of WordPress. ๐
Great post! The instructions were very clear! But for some reason when I edit pictures anytime I insert it into my blog post it reverts to the original. So my nicely cropped image reverts to its original unwanted form. Do you have any idea as to why this might be?

I am using image compresion api’s for a while now . Tiny png and cloudinary are the best out there . I dont understand how cludinary did,nt make it to the list. No other vendor can resize and compress image faster and better then cloudinary . Cloudinary is a premium service by the way . But it deserves a look.
Hi I am trying to upload and REPLACE 800 images in my media library. The Media Replace Plugin only allows me to replace one image at a time. Is there a plugin that would allow me to do a bulk image upload and replace?

It would be great if Envira had the ability to automatically scale gallery pics to a certain size upon upload, so that only those pics got special treatment. As it is right now, I have to scale my pics offline before I upload them, which takes longer.
I see that the method above could be useful, but I would only want that to affect my Envira Gallery images and no others. Don’t think that tool can make the distinction.
The above method is more powerful than using the Image Processor script. In addition to resizing to a fixed size, you could resize multiple images with different aspect ratios to all the same width, for example, or convert all the image’s color scheme, etc.
The Image Processor script is great if ALL you need to do is resize to a fixed WxH, but for more edits to each image, the above system would be needed.

Hi ๐ If you are using an Automatic layout, then you wouldn’t see exactly the same. You’d need to add your margin between each image by changing the Automatic margins: https://cl.ly/1S1d1B0F3T2g. But if you are using a columned gallery (as shown in the screenshots of the article) you can add the margin between the images this way through the https://cl.ly/0y0Y020L3p1V.

Is there a limit to the number of photos that can be uploaded at one time? I imported a test file with a couple of photos and it worked fine. Then I imported the real file with about 2,000 photos, but it uploads quickly with a success message and no photos loaded.
Hi Corey ๐ My name is Barbi in support and I’m happy to answer any questions for you! Envira doesn’t have any limits however there can be other reasons causing this for you. It could be that the server is timing out or it’s running out of memory trying to import that many images in one go. It could also be the hosting company is limiting this on their server configuration.
I would recommend reaching out to the hosting company and having them investigate this further for you. You may want to start by asking them to increase settings like your PHP max_execution_time and your WordPress memory but other settings may need to be increased as well to allow for that many images to be uploaded at once.

Great updates! We use envira for our customers photo booth galleries but find when we upload them only parts with come up with the chosen watermark, on average we upload 200-350 images per gallery and would be greatful if you could give us some tips on how to use the watermarking function so it actually works 100% of the time.
So if I don’t pay and my theme gets updated…say in a year, my Envira Gallery won’t work anymore? And if there’s a new update I won’t be able to get it without paying? My entire website is based on this gallery…I love it obviously just hate the idea of paying for a plugin that I’ve had for so long. I feel that if I’m understanding this correctly it was “given” free just to have people depend on it throughout their website and then once their website was done you are going to basically backcharge them. Hey David, I think there’s a misunderstanding here. We’re not discontinuing the Envira Gallery Lite version on WordPress.org. If you’re using the free version, nothing will change – you’ll still be able to get updates.
This change only affects the Ultimate license version. For a while, we’ve offered a license option where you can opt to pay a one-time fee and get lifetime support and all addons and updates for life. That’s the only thing that’s changing – we’ll no longer be offering the Ultimate license.

You compiled a really great list of helpful resources. However, I would like to add a few tips regarding the exposure gaining process. You mentioned using Pinterest and blogging as a great way to promote yourself, but do not forget the power of social media( I know Pinterest falls into this category, but I am talking about some other platforms. Indeed, Pinterest is a great resource, but it doesn’t provide that level of interactivity that some potential clients may need.
Platforms such as Facebook provide the opportunity to spread the content at an incredible speed (they have even some advertising services, so if you have some money to invest, I think it worth the shot).

Hi Sushi, yes you need to select the photos that you want to import from your Dropbox account. However, you can talk to out support team for importing multiple images without selecting one by one. ๐
It seems possible if you click on each photo and the Insert.
But I wonder how to bulk select a bunch of photos at once, e.g. by keeping “shift” or “cmd” pressed and then only click on the first photo and the last one of those which I want to insert. So that all photos located between the first and last photo are automatically selected too.
This seems not possible. It’s also not possible to import a single dropbox-folder regardless how many pictures are inside this folder.
This is a shame for photographers and others, who want to migrate large volumes from their dropbox into their Envira gallery. At least it should be possible to insert photos from uploads-folders via Envira directly, in order to avoid upload-limits caused by the hosting-provider.
I wonder if Envira can also link images from external resources (like Dropbox, FTP, Google Photos etc.) rather than import them into the Library. This could save storage on the wordpress installation and help to prevent duplicate data ๐
Of course the source-URLs of the images should be publicly accessible or at least provide a link that only Envira-Plugin would be able to use.
This would enhance the whole process of managing images, public-galleries and client-galleries enormously.

Usually I do testing on a testbed but I made the mistake of trying to go live with this and am running into snags. I do have the proper settings on the slideshow, per the docs.

I am going to choose between Envira and Net-Gen, i love Envira’s interface and speed, however the slider is one most part of my considerations before i buy the pay version. i did many research, is that mean the Envira has to use with Soliloguy to make image sliders? i cannot find any sliders demo on Envira website, the slider addon does not do basic slider, it change the interface to album slider. there is no way to make image slider even with pay version of Envira?
Hi Shiliang, I recommend you to follow this guide. ๐ As mentioned, you need to purchase the Developers Plan of Soliloquy to create a slider. Since slider is your most important consideration, I recommend you to get the Soliloquy plugin with Developers License and get the basic Envira Plan. However, you can upgrade anytime. ๐
How can I keep my uploaded photos synced with changes I make in LR? Image adjustments sync when I re-publish, but not keywords, titles, or captions. More strange, when I do a caption or keyword change in LR to an already-published image and then re-publish, my WP dashboard shows the change to the file in the media folder, but NOT in the relevant gallery – which shows an “x” in the image edit box instead of the image and still retains the metadata fields from the preceding upload.
Ah. Barbi told me about the Insanity plugin to set a maximum width and height for uploaded images. Our clients will upload unedited images that are 3000+ pixels or more because they don’t understand image dimensions. I’m going to give his plugin a try. WordPress should add this feature right out of the box.
Hi – I built my site on a staging version with envira pro and then when it was moved to the public url, the images disappeared from the galleries. The Fix button does not solve this. The galleries are still listed in the Envira tab and they have shortcode numbers and the pictures are there in the media library – just not in the galleries.

Does this mean that the Facebook sharing plugin simply won’t work properly for my visitors? I am having this problem now, where when anyone clicks the facebook icon on an image, it shares the wrong image. The solutions presented here appear only to work if I want to manually fix the post that I make. How can I fix it so that it will work properly for my visitors?

I love portrait Photography. I like taking wide portrait Photographs. Canon works tremendously for portrait photography. Some of your tips are very helpful for me to try those with my DSLR camera using lens.
That’s an interesting question. So, here are the steps that I recommend:
1. Optimize your images using the tools mentioned in the article that you shared in your comment. You can crop the photo to your required size and save it for web.
2. Edit your photos in Lightroom and upload them to your site using Envira Gallery’s Lightroom Addon.

Lenses will vary but all are primes from 18mm-200mm, Ill end up swapping a few of my primes for zoom because of weight, they’re awesome but not so ideal for hiking.

Thank you, I stopped in many of those ares some I didn’t take a ton of photos at. I was just enjoying the views. The map posted is the actual route I traveled, the planned one had a few of those ares on it. I skipped out Monument Valley because depending on the area a license is required to use photos from the lands commercially and I couldn’t find a ton of information how to get one while there. The timeframe you’ll be there remember to bring a bit extra water it will be extremely hot in some of those areas, part of the reasoning for heading there this time a year was weather. New Zealand is on my bucket list, its such a beautiful part of this world, I want to wait until I have time to fully explore it.

Hi! Just to add, if you would like to change the permalink to an image, you could very simply edit the image, choose “screen options” on the top right corner, enable “slug”. Click “save”. Refresh the page and there should be a “slug” field that appears at the bottom. You will then be able to change the permalink via the slug option below.
Mary, I have another problem. My WP site scarab13.co was performing great, but now most of the images are broken links. I checked and realized that most of my images are somehow renamed in media library (from regular names to something like o-u-oyz2qau.jpg). I have no idea how did this happen or how to fix it. Is this something you plugin could help me with? thanks
This is very cool. One question I have is if I add the extra image sizes as you suggest in step 2, will this then allow WordPress to choose which size to display based on screen resolution? If the site is responsive then the image size required would surely change for mobile, tablet and desktop. Apologies if this is too noob!

So I have been in the market for a new camera. Been looking at Canon’s, but and torn between that and a sony. Do you guys have any input into which may be better suited for me? I wont be doing ‘professional’ photgraphy, but it is a possibility down the road. I saw on http://www.bestcamerahq.com that it had the EOS Rebel T5i rated pretty high, and after reading some reviews I think it may be a good choice. My budget is around 1,000$, my last camera was. Do any of you have any experience with the EOS T Model? Thanks for any input.
I’m Chris, the lead developer on Envira. I also happen to be a photographer ๐ I’m a Sony shooter, but have shot with friends’ cameras of all brands. In the grand scheme, all companies have some solid system, so it’s more about what you prefer. I suggest also looking at the lens line up, so when you invest in glass as the years pass by you can buy a body that has the same mount. That way you won’t have to re-invest in new lenses. The Canon t5i is a good camera and Canon has a great lens line up. With Sony, for that budget you’d be with the a6000-a6500. If you don’t need 4k video the a6000 is still a great camera and you can find that for a really good price currently. Try to find a store locally that has both models on display, hold them see if they feel comfortable in your hands. That will give you a good idea what camera feels better to be carrying around.
Unfortunately I don’t think Facebook has a way to set this up. I’d recommend using the Yoast SEO plugin as mentioned above. Then you can manually enter the image you want Facebook to use for each post. Here’s what the settings look like:
By entering your image there, you can make sure Facebook chooses the image you want.

I agree that shadow definitely can create drama in your portraits. It’s important to find a model who knows that and understands how to use shadows to their benefit. I think it would be so fun and interesting to be a photographer.

Unfortunately it looks like it’s not possible to change individual file names from inside Lightroom. Here’s a video from Adobe on how and when to rename files in Lightroom that you may find useful.

Absolutely we want your clients to feel your brand from your site all the way to your booking site. You can upload your logo and custom wallpaper to complete your photography image.
There is so much out there by now, it’s hard to choose. I think my favorite sites are two rather new players who understand that they need to differentiate themselves. RawPixel and OneLeftMedia, although small, both provide authentic images that are distinctly different from the bulk.

I’ve been looking for photo gallery software that contains 3 abilities that I thought would have been commonplace: host it myself, tag areas of a photo and add a date for timeline sorting. Little did I realize that this would be virtually impossible to find.
Since the other two don’t allow me to host my photos myself, does Envira handle the other two? I want to tag an area to identify a person or something else important in the photo, and have timeline sorting? (and if it doesn’t, any ideas where else I could look?)
Most of the stuff that I learned was actually reverse engineering other peoples actions. I can see the cause and effect of using certain adjustment layers and what effect it has after I tweak and re tweak it.
I agree– a DSLR can make a huge difference when taking portraits. I recommend using a lens with a low focal point. The lower the focal point, the more zoned in on a face you can get. I recommend searching blogs for tips. http://www.robertbrucephotography.com/

I don’t like this website with two columns – left menu, right content, but very clear design with big good photos and very good UX it is enough for this kind of webdesign.
While it’s true that you can control almost every aspect of your site if you use WordPress, that also means you’re responsible for every aspect as well. And most photographers (myself included), don’t want to spend hours and hours every week on the website. I’d recommend something like Format.com. The site is really simple to create and modify, and the inherit photography features (like proofing and watermarking) are already there. Great article though!

For some reason that I can’t determine, the tags filtering is not animating for me. It just reloads the page with the filtered images. Is there a setting to make it animate rather than reload?
Trying out the Envira gallery that is bundled with X theme. It will not save any meta data and light box links to images suddenly disappeared while trying to save meta date – It worked initially and I was considering a 3 site license – but now, not so much. ๐
Hey Carla! It sounds like you may be having a compatibility issue with another plugin. I would try disabling all plugins except for Envira and see if that fixes the problem (then systematically turn them back on to see which one is causing the issue).
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then you’ll want to contact X theme. Since it’s bundled, it could be a theme issue.

I like Molongui Authorship plugin better. It allows you to fully customize the author box, choose between some layouts and link to any social network profile you may have.
Honestly, I can’t imagine why you left Molongui Authorship off the list but included plugins that haven’t been updated in the last two years or more or plugins that are no longer there. But ok, I just want to contribute with a plugin I use and I think can be very helpful to many other people.
Thank you for this info, much easier than expected! I just tried on several .htaccess files in my cpanel file manager (inmotion hosting). Had to edit then undo several times because adding the code for this procedure caused a 500 error. Turns out, since I’m using InMotion’s BoldGrid as an editor, I had to choose the .htaccess file within the BoldGrid “inspirations” (themes) folder and it worked! Now the limit is 128MB! It works! But I can’t edit the extra large images, oh well… thanks again!
I am using the latest version o WP and the lastest version of Envira Lite. I just moved my site and all the pictures are gone from the gallery. I must be missing something because I cannot find the settings under Envira Gallery->Settings. I have checked the config area of some galleries, but to no avail. Am I just not seeing something?

On a sidenote; why was there no communication about the seemingly avaliable; Zoom and Print Addons? Just found out they where there but there was no real announcement for these.
New features need some form of communication to be in the mind of customers etc. (Communication is key)
That just leaves open the formely announced comment addon (which is the main reason of my inquiry above). Any ETA on that?

When you develop templates, please note that many of us most likely use both Envira Gallery and Soliloquy. It’s helpful to have matching features in the layouts and lightbox displays.
Backup & Restore Dropbox plugin on wordpress is still the best backup plugin I have seen so far. It allows for Unlimited dropbox backups, Unlimited dropbox restores, Unlimited local backups and Unlimited local restores.
So far my experience with Envira has been horrible. I followed your instructions and a series of weird events followed.
1) the gallery wouldn’t take more than 9 pics. -I need forty in the Kitchen Cabinet gallery
2) the pictures would not show. I ran the mouse over the page and they would flash up and disappear.
3) I am not sure if the upgrade a purchased will do the slightest bit of good. And I have lost my belief in the reviews that said Envira was awesome.

It seems you are incorrect about Smugmug having ownership of photos. Per their licensing agreement, this is not true. Their agreement states they are not the content owner. You should validate information about your competitor before assuming or intentionally lying about them.
Hi Glenn, unless your images are hosted on your own site, you don’t truly have ownership over them because you don’t have complete control. While you own the copyright to your photos, Smugmug can still delete your photos at any time without your consent, as per their Terms of Service which states: “SmugMug may terminate a Subscription, or any user’s access to and use of the Subscription Services, at any time for any reason at its sole discretion, which such termination will be effective immediately.”

With this update, am I able to create a gallery that’s linked to a specific Dropbox folder, and is automatically updated as I add photos to that folder?
I would add that it is important to see the direction the light is coming from to make sure the highlights and shadows in the sky is the same as the base image. It doesn’t look right to have the sun on the left when it’s clearly shining on the buildings on the right where the shadows should be. Also, it’s a good idea to match the color balance…

I bought Envira Gallery (and installed the Dropbox plugin), but noticed an error while trying to use Dropbox. Something with not having 64-bit integers in PHP.
(I used both PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 and both generated the same result)
I use an iMac with 64-bit architecture and even my iPad has 64-bit support (if I am not mistaken). Any ideas what might cause this?

You’ll want to check with your host about configuring the server and PHP to be 64-bit. Make sure that both hardware and PHP will need to be 64-bit or this error can occur.

It’s a compiled list of all our favorite free presets from across the internet, so the download processes varies for each depending on the website where it’s offered. However, I just tested Green Greens again and was able to download it successfully. Here are the steps I followed:
1. Click the link in this article to go to PresetLove’s website where it’s offered.
2. Click the “download free” button and put in your email.
3. Log into your email and look for an email from PresetLove (check your spam folder – that’s where it went for me). In the email click the button that says Confirm My Email.
4. After that, they’ll send you another email that has a link to download the preset file. It took about 10 minutes for me to receive the 2nd email, but check your spam again if you’re not seeing it.

Hi David, unfortunately there isn’t an integration like that right now, but I’ve added it as a feature request for our team!
To help with tracking gallery views, here are a couple of workaround things you could also consider:
1. Standalone galleries (enabled in your Envira settings), will give all of your galleries a unique URL instead of having to embed them in a page or post. This allows you to easily link to the gallery and track views the same way you would a page or post.
2. Deeplinking (enabled in the Lightbox configuration tab) will give all your images in the gallery they’re own URL using anchor links. So when a visitor views an image in the lightbox, the URL will have “#image-title” at the end of it. Google Analytics doesn’t track anchor links by default, but MonsterInsights does have a 1-click feature to turn on anchor link tracking, which would allow you to track individual lightbox images as pages.

What does the average photo sell for?
Hi Julian, that’s difficult to answer since it depends on a number of factors including the photo, the platform, and the license type. Photos can sell for a few cents up to hundreds of dollars.
Platforms like Smugmug and Etsy allow the photographer to set their own prices while sites like Adobe Stock and Shutterstock have preset pricing that ranges based on the number of purchased images or subscription plan. For example, a pack of 2 Shutterstock images comes out to a selling price of $11 per photo, but a monthly subscription for up to 750 images works out to a selling price of only $0.26 per photo.
No mention of AVIF?

Although WordPress and most browsers support AVIF files, Google Search actually doesn’t support it (at least not yet). That means AVIF images can’t be indexed, can’t appear in Google Image Search, and Google won’t even analyze and index a video if the thumbnail is in AVIF format.
As you can imagine, all of that is bad for SEO. So for now, we recommend sticking to more widely supported formats when it comes to web images, but I’ll be sure to update the article if/when Google does start supporting AVIF. ๐

On the off chance that you’re still wondering about this, I wanted to let you know that you actually can create a new gallery using existing settings with the Defaults addon (available with a Pro license). Feel free to reply or reach out to support if you’d like help with anything else.
I would favor zoom lens of high quality. 24-105mm is my preference.
I would focus on one camera, zoom lens (24-105mm is my pick), & a strong compact flash, along with several camera & flash batteries in your pockets, & extra memory cards. Manual or aperture setting on camera. Know what setting to use on your flash beforehand. Bring along a backup camera, & one or two portable strobe light with stands, and a flash meter (with spare batteries).

Shutterstock was a waste of time. Also, making only 20 – 30% on my work that costs them very little to keep on site, its not worth it.
How to reverse the image order in an existing gallery?
I’m still learning On1 PhotoRaw 2022 and love what you can do with all the functionality. However, try as I may, I can’t seem to find the option to add a blank layer that you can paint on with color splotches of your choice to blend onto the lower layer. Is the only way you can do this is to find the color in a texture and mask it out? Not as satisfactory or easy as being able to do it yourself.

I have had good results with a program called Turbo Image Compressor. I don’t like uploading my images to random websites and so I prefer to use offline utilities.
Turbo Image Compressor has a nice feature set such as compressing JPEGs based on a desired file size in Kilobytes, compression quality slider, shrink by max width or max height in pixels and batch processing of course. For those asking how to batch replace multiple files. Use those 2 plugin combined:
– Overwrite Uploads (name is auto-explicative)
– Extend Media Upload (it lets you select the folder to upload to, instead of the default one)
I think PNG = Portable Network Graphics is better and helpful .

Strongly disagree, dark colours don’t always blend in. If you’re at a beach or winery, black does the total opposite of being subtle. And dressing like a guest blends in far more. I don’t want people to notice me, therefore I dress like a guest. If I am in any photos from either my second shooter, the videographer, or other guests, you barely see me as I’m not dressed like a waiter in all black.

Don’t see that anywhere (in Feb. 2021, PS Rel. 22.0.1). Which drop-down menu?
On1 photo raw uses a single database to store all the photos. This is very risky as any corruption to the database will make you rebuilding your database again which is a very painful process. I prefer Lightroom’s support for multiple catalogs as corruption to one catalog will not affect the others, which makes life much easier.
I currently utilize Lightroom 6 and it feels like I’m being restricted by Adobe for their cloud and monthly subscription based Lightroom Classic if I want to update my current Lightroom 6. It seems to me that when I purchased Lightroom 6 I would be able to update that platform. Adobe evidently decided differently and
as a result willl continue to look for a non Lightroom replacement photo editing program as Lightroom 6 would probably be unable to support any new cameras, lens that I purchase in the future. I would gladly pay a reasonable upgrade fee to my lifetime and stand alone version 6 if available.

Thank you very much for the recommendations. I have used several of them and some of them count more impressions, others pay better, in short each one has its own.
Why not just use real film profiles? In 2020 all the film stocks ever made are already digitised by specialist companies (like RNI) and available as profiles for Lightroom.
Personally I use RNI All Films 5 and apply a Kodak Ektar 100 or Kodak Portra 400 profile as a default on import.
Not only they sort out the colors but also render better highlights from the same RAW, prevent clipping if required and do other nice things. Canโt recommend enough.
Completely agree with R’s comment above. Shutterstock should not be on this list!! Their new lowered fee structure of paying photographers 10c per photo sale is an absolute insult.

i am unable to find “plugin manager” on my windows Photoshop Lightroom … is it now hidden?
My place is one of the best tourist spot and I would like to sell photo from it as part of my tour organizing business.
I’ve developed websites in both WordPress and Squarespace but now will only use Squarespace. I can still customize as much as I want using CSS and HTML, use advanced SEO and usually finish in about the quarter of the time it took with WordPress. An added bonus, I am able to train the majority of my clients to make their own changes to copy or add new images easily, leaving me with the larger structural changes.
There are many online image optimizer. The challenge is to ensure the quality so that there is no significant impact for end user. This has good compression and does not deteriorate quality

Is there any site that one can actually see what the Solioquy slideshow options look like and what kind of slideshow features they support?? I have committed to creating all my galleries in Envira but had difficulty finding a satisfactory slideshow option as most slideshow plug ins were either very funky or could not support captions. CC BY : This license allows you to use the image for whatever purpose you want, but you have to attribute it. If you change the image, you can then change the license to whatever you want.
I came here to find the answer to that the same as Jamie above. I’ve built my galleries and tested where to put the alt tag. They are independent – if you add the alt tag in the envira gallery it will not be there in the media gallery, and vice versa. So the question is are we meant to add them to both places or just one? Or is there a setting somewhere that says ‘take the alt tag from media gallery’ or something like that? Anyone got the answer out there please?

Enable Media Replace is quite cool, but it still doesn’t have the ability to let us select massive files to replace the current existing files (maybe hundreds or thousands of files).

I think that such suggestions may be useful for all website owners especially if your main content is original images or photos. I know that some companies even use thew watermarks on their logos to avoid duplications as well as they use their logo as a watermark in original photos and images.

Great list of photo editors. I think the most issues people have when choosing a high-end photo editor, is getting a “complete package” as you do with Lightroom+ Photoshop in Adobe’s Photography Cloud subscription. Lightroom could be way better, and most photographers who want something else than Lightroom, get stuck because they will miss Photoshop. The best current alternative I believe to be Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo is quite cheap and is very close to matching up with Photoshop.

Thank you so much for sharing the insights. In 3 weeks I’m resigning from my job to study full-time and I now have the confidence I’ll do just fine with my new venture as a freelance photographer.
I’m a hobby photographer shooting with a Nikon D5500. The only site I’ve tried to sell my work on is Shutterstock. Out of ~50 photos uploaded ~20 were approved. Some were rejected for being ‘overprocessed’ when I purposely post processed them for my desired effect. So if you’re a Pink Floyd fan Shutterstock is probably not going to be good for you. Others were rejected for ‘subject is not in focus’. These were vast landscape photographs, where it’s impossible to have everything in perfect focus. Some of these I resubmitted and the new reviewer approved them. This proves inconsistencies in their review process. It just depends on what employee reviews your work and what mood they were in at that time.
Out of the 20 photos that were approved, I have a total of 5 sales over almost 2 years, paid out at $0.25 each. Not counting the time and expenses of going out to take these photos (I don’t count these expenses because I’m not a pro and I was just doing something that I enjoy) I spent 4-5 hours over the course of several days to register, process my photos, upload my material, and resubmit. Now almost 2 years later I have $1.25 from my efforts. Since uploading on Shutterstock, I’ve learned that the older your content gets the lower it goes on search results. Eventually nobody will ever see your work here, unless you keep uploading (current work will only be seen). So much for passive income.
My advice is don’t waste your time with Shutterstock unless you have time and are willing to put energy into constantly uploading, resubmitting, and doing your own marketing, and in the end they will make 10x more than you from your work. If you’re willing to do all that you might as well start your own web site.
Fun fact, making 2.5 sales per year at $0.25 per sale, I will have to wait 2,000 years to make minimum wage for the photos I’ve had accepted at Shutterstock. Oh and you have to hit $75 before you can cash out, so maybe in 100 years I’ll get my $75 if I haven’t been dead for 60 years (which is likely). This is probably what they’re counting on for 95% of their content providers.
Then if I want to cover my field session time and expenses and sales are steady, I’ll be in the black in about 200,000 years. Cheers!

In LR it’s as easy as pressing “j”, which shows blue for dark areas and red for bright areas.

The default WordPress Image Editor is sometimes very laggy. It takes multiple efforts to make any changes. I’m not using it anymore.
Very informative article. I would like to recommend to sell photo item on Shutterstock marketplace as a vendor. It’s a huge marketplace and there has many visitors. In the last 6 months, their visit was over 72 million. Really it is huge. Adobe Stock also good but personally I’m not interested in their marketing policy.

I have a few alerts about some of these websites for people who are just starting:
AdobeStock – Great site. Pays well. Does not accept editorial content.
Shutterstock – Rarely will you get more than $0.25 for a download.
Alamy – Extremely easy to upload. Good information form to fill out for each photo. The downside is that even after being a collaborator for over a year, I haven’t got one download yet. Even though on many of the other websites, I have multiple downloads. Doesn’t let you create collections.
Crestock – I made an account over 6 months ago and uploaded 9 photos for review. They never got reviewed.
500px – Seems like a good website. The only problem is that the watermark they put on the photos is very small. Anyone that wants their photos for web use, can get it directly from the site without paying. This also happens with Stocksy, which I really wanted to collaborate with, since they payout 50% to the photographers.

I think SPE is the core of successful wedding photography. And, SEP stands for:
Skill, Equipment and Pre-Plan.
You can’t do great without any of those three.
On1 could be really good but a couple of issues are: Going from browse to edit takes up to 5 seconds and I have an Imac with 32gb Ram. The noise reduction in On1 makes very little difference to photographs. I use Nick Def 2 noise reduction in Lightroom but it’s not available as a plugin in ON1. Apart from these issues, I really like On1 and if they fix the speed issues and come up with decent noise reduction software then I’ll ditch my Adobe subscription for good.
When I use my spot healing brush tool it removes a white flake (from a newborn baby’s face) and replaces it with a brown freckle! please help, thanks

I have been using on1 photoraw now for some years and I’m always searching for something better.
The problem is, I always end up in PR.
Through work I’ve got a Lightroom licence, and every year I give it a try and (just did it) it doesn’t work for me, somehow the program that I did use for years is really to slow, and the green worms you get with fuji are still there.
Is on1 photoraw perfect.
No, because then I wouldn’t be searching for something better, I’m using affinity photo for noise reduction (if I need to). I don’t like the catalogs that are somewhere on my c drive and eating processing power en disk space.
But for the price, support you get from On1 it’s coming close.
(ps i use it on a windows 10 system)

I find it totally unethical for any tradesperson or product supplier to demand payment in full for a product that they have not seen.
An advance booking fee is fair enough.
But how can you ask for money in advance for a service or product that doesnโt exist? Payment in full should only be paid for the product if it meets the customers satisfaction.
If the photographer is confident in their product there is no risk to them not being paid.
Image masking/Clipping mask is effective when you have hairy objects like a woolen dress, furry coats, hairy dolls, stray hairs, and so on in an image. It is a useful method of selecting the borders of an image to work on the background. However, Photoshop is an amazing photo editing tool which generates astonishingly beautiful images if done by a professional photo editor. Hand-drawn image masking service is essential for product photography and e-commerce site as the automatic tool cannot ensure 100% perfection.

Well I want to become a freelance photographer I registered myself on different big freelancing websites but still no much success I gained. Please suggest me more things any expert advice to do things better in the same field.
What it holds me back is lens profile support. I don’t have pro lens. 3 Nikons, 1 Sigma and 1 Tamron. And neither is in Capture One. I also miss map (GPS location). And (as you mentioned) publish plugins (Flickr, Google photo, 500px). I can live without a history panel and face recognition.

I have a few copyright questions. Regarding the images in your blog, they look like screen shots of the sites’ homepages. Do we need permission from the websites if we are to use content like you have above?
And what if I want to create a “Best of Show” or “Last-Minute Gifts” blog. Would I need permission to post photos of the products in my blog? For instance, if I include an iPhone as a gift item, would I need permission from Apple to use a photo of their phone? Or do I simply give credit and specify where I got the photo (e.g., Image: Apple)?

This is a great help. I use Adobe Fireworks which works great at cropping & optimizing but it stripes out the all exif data. It can be added back in but there is so much camera data, I’m looking at alternatives.
I’ve sold images through Shutterstock, Twenty20, and Abobe Stock, and tried plenty of other sites including Alamy, EyeM, 123RF and Dreamstime
Alamy are the most picky. What’s more, they literally ban you from uploading for weeks if you upload something they don’t like.
Beware of Dreamstime – you cannot leave! You can delete all your content but they will continue to sell it. Very dubious practises.
Twenty20 and EyeM have, by far, the easiest Model Release methods, and they pay out immediately rather than having to reach a threshold. They also have regular and free missions to encourage you to upload your best on topic images – more sites should do this.
Shutterstock and Abobe – you don’t get much per image, so you have to have sold a lot before they pay out.
123RF – They often don’t review your images for weeks. When you poke them about it, you suddenly find the last 20 were unacceptable. Very slap dash.
In summary, Twenty20 and EyeM are recommended. Shutterstock and Adobe also recommended if you in it for the long game.

On my site I installed woocommerce, and for graphic reasons most of the images are transparent png. These images have already been optimized in photoshop and weigh very little even though they are not small in terms of pixels.
My problem is that wordpress or woocommerce reduce these pngs and worsen the resolution, all this also leads to a disproportionate increase in weight.
I load images from 100 / 150kb and with the resizing they weigh 400 / 500kb sometimes even more.
What do you advise me to do?
I thought it would be better to block resizing and compression for png images. So as to display the original images in all the pages of the site, resized only visually with respect to the design of the page.
How can I do this?

I bought the plugin specifically to upload images already. on Dropbox into my media gallery to then use with Feedme plugin in WooCommerce to sell photos.
Everything is set up but no images appear when upload from Dropbox is selected in the Envira add gallery.
My question is – should not plugin not ask to point to a specific folder on Dropbox and if so what is that folder? I had already looked on Dropbox to see if perhaps the API created a folder on Dropbox which it did not.
Does it work to change dpi without resizing the photos? I tried this way and couldn’t do it.
Same issue here. Just bought the pro version, and added the Gallery Themes addon. Seems to have everything else I’m looking for, but don’t see the opacity option.
The gallery I’m testing it on was originally created in the Lite version, so not sure if that could be the issue.

Good day, I am having some problems with the WordPress crunching all my images which really slows down the process of uploading images. Is there any way of removing the Flash Uploader. I have already added the following code to all the function.php files in my Cpanel:
add_filter( ‘flash_uploader’, create_function( ‘$a’, “return null;” ), 1 );
as well as
add_filter( ‘flash_uploader’, create_function( ‘$a’, “return false;” ), 1 );
I have also changed the media settings Image sizes all to 0.
Nothing seems to be working it keeps crunching the images when I upload it.
If anyone can help I will really appreciate it as this is driving me crazy now.

I tried so very hard to replace Lightroom with ON1 Photo Raw 2019.2, but the software has way too many issues.
The most serious issue is performance. I’ve got a late 2015 model iMac with 3.3 GHz I7 processor, 16 GByte of RAM and a 2TB fusion drive. Lightroom just screams on my computer. ON1 Photo Raw, on the other hand, is extremely slow: it takes about 2 seconds to build a preview, it takes about 1.2 to 2 seconds for a develop adjustment to display. It takes a good 3 seconds when advancing to the next photo in Develop mode till the system is ready. It takes an extremely long time to export photos. I could go on, but you get the idea.
The next issue on the list is Lens Correction. If I import directly from my camera (Nikon D60) to ON1, there is no camera or lens information (either in ON1 or using Mac OS Finder) If I use Adobe Bridge, the camera and lens info is there (in Finder), but ON1 will not apply a Lens Profile. I can pick my Camera and Lens Manually, but it usually distorts the photo and I have to do a manual correction. ON1 says this is a bug in the software.
Smart collections and filters aren’t really very smart. The only option is “equals” and all rules are inclusive. I can’t do anything based on “does not equal” or “begins with” or “is either one or the other.” This makes filtering a real pain.
The next issue is also a real deal killer for me. It may be because my Camera is relatively old and is considered a pro-sumer model. Any (RAW) photos taken at ISO 800 or 1600 are really noisy. The same photos viewed in Apple Photos or Lightroom display little to no noise at all, and what noise is there is easily removed in Lightroom, but not in ON1 Photo Raw. ISO 3200 photos are impossible to clean up in Photo Raw, but clean up relatively easily in Lightroom.
I’ve purchased Photo Raw, but I’m forced to keep using Lightroom, occasionally using PhotoRaw as a Plug-in for special cases. That seems to work OK. Maybe the next update will fix all this, but somehow I doubt it. The impression I have is that the developers are focused on new features, and not usability or stability.
“Glowing” reviews of ON1 Photo Raw give potential users a false impression of this application. Check out the ON1 forums to get the “real” picture.

The tutorial itself is useful, but to me, the photo ‘after’ seems to have become overexposed after editing.
Itโs true. The market is saturated and people take their own pictures these days. Itโs difficult if not impossible to make a living or any money at all selling pictures. Most people will find it more profitable to do any minimum wage job. Unless you have a special niche and are extremely aggressive at marketing.

I have a question pertaining to saved image files. When they are saved with the prefix cross0. followed by a set of numbers .jpg, what does the cross0 mean or stand for?
Take a look at pixels.com or Fine Art America, same company. I’ve been using them for approx 10 yrs. $30 year fee, unlimited photos. You set the fee for each photo. They do everything else. Metal, Canvas, Cups, Sheets, Shower Curtains the list goes on. Little effort to use and it’s free for 30 days.

I am new to designing my website. I have 3 photos I wish to place on my home page. I used Imsanity and resized all the photos that I had uploaded to my media section. I placed them on the home page, but they are still different heights. Do I need to take them back into Photoshop and make them the same height before I upload them again?

I switched from Lightroom 2 years ago and while the learning curve was steep to start with, the speed of capture one wins hands down along with the fantastic raw conversion and there are hundreds of thousands of styles not just a few recipes as you stated.
Along with everything else the colour grading is divine and luminosity masking is fantatsic
when trying to paste the image to alpha channel it won’t let me copy anything in from the filter gallery section? using photoshop in Mac OS

I just joined Shutterstock and it is very particular. I submitted a photo of a sundog and it was rejected because the sun was out of focus!! Out of 103 submissions, 71 were rejected, some for dumb reasons such as needed to be in english, even tho it is, or the title didn’t match the photo, even tho it does. People in bleachers all need model releases, even if they are wearing sunglasses and are not identifiable. Just be aware if you go here. They said a dog needed a model release!!!
With a site as reputable as shutterstock you can’t just go take a bunch of random pictures on your walk through the park and expect them to approve them. The pictures need to be of good quality and and have simple titles as described by their starter faq. As for people on bleachers and dogs needing model releases of course. Model releases are their to protect not only the person/animal being photographed but it also protects the “artist” and shutterstock. If ANYTHING should happen during or after the life of someone or something you photographed they could bring your stock image up in court and cost the company thousands of dollars and could easily bankrupt you. They’ve been doing this for 15+ years to my understanding. They know what they are doing because they’ve seen and done it all before.

The “raw” isn’t free… however there is a free On 1 that is free. and it’s just as good I like it and use it all the time. go to there website and look under “free” and you will see it.

Nice article, I’m a fan of natural light. Interesting though, in example 5 I actually preferred the shot which was underexposed, has more ‘depth’ to it (in my humble opinion)? You can go too far to remove tonal contrsts, that’s why I’m not a fand of HDR techniques.

Hello I have a problem, I am simply trying to rotate some pictures with this wordpress editor, but for some reason after I do, it changes the file name and the thumbnail for the picture is no longer visible. Any idea what causes this issue?
Plenty of websites are offering money for uploading the images to their website as the pictures which have creativity getting more popularity and money according to that it is decided the price of the photo. Some of the trusted website in which you can trust blindly is Shutterstock as it is most trusted site from my view.

I would have loved some offline utilities/apps. Online ones come with a lot of limitations for free users and recurring monthly/yearly fees, whereas most applications are a one-time buy and you don’t need to be online the whole time to work with them.

Hi Sergio ๐ You can add a caption to your gallery images that has a link to the EDD single product page. But you’d only be able to show the link in the lightbox. Or you could link the gallery image directly to the EDD single product page instead of having the lightbox open. We have a demo of the first option (using Woocommerce but it’s the same concept for EDD): https://demo.enviragallery.com/envira/enviras-woocommerce-automatic-demo-linking-to-single-product-page/. Click any image on that page to open the lightbox – you’ll see the View More Details button (it’s a caption that links with CSS styling for the button) and it will direct the user to the product page. Does that help?

However PhotoShelter is too expensive for a photographer whose starting out. The same functionalities are offered by other platforms like Pixpa. I’ve had an e-commerce store for selling prints with Pixpa since almost a year, the sales are not regular but its an excellent source of side income.

I preferred using plugin than a theme for my Knowledgebase. I have been using Helpie Knowledgebase for my Gallery website and I have to say it has very well reduced my support to a great extent.
If the images already have an alt text in the media library, is it possible to have it auto populate this field in the gallery?
What format for people pictures is hardest to edit (to protect our client’s pictures from being doctored) if its downloaded?
Can one build a protection against pictures being downloaded or file format that would discourage downloading?

Hardest to download: .svg (Scaled Vector Graphics). By far. They don’t work like your average image and non professional users will not know what to do with ’em. Your average run of the mill software will not display it, but it actually has huge benefits for online web uses.
Plus, since it can be used as a DOM node-based API it kind of looks horrible and very, VERY discouraging to a lot of potential image thieves ๐
But if it is a format for you really depends on what image you want to display.
There is however no format to prevent downloading and editing of your images. When you put them on display, they will always remain vulnerable to piracy. You can watermark them to make them useless for unauthorized uses (like the big image selling sites tend to do), but if you use them for aesthetic purposes on your site, you probably don’t want to watermark them.

I think it is very important to ask the budget question up front. If the photographer has a wedding menu that is very helpful. Usually the first thing a client asks is how much do you charge for weddings? And it depends on what the client is looking for and how much they are willing to spend for quality photos. As a photographer I have been asked several times to put together either a book or slide show from a wedding taken by “A Friend” and the photos are terrible. The couple would have been better off with a small budget and a good photographer than a friend with a new camera. Don’t get me wrong friends photos sometimes are great, sometimes. If you want a good album or video hire and pay but don’t over pay either. Your budget should be between $150 – $300 an hour and remember some photographers have an hourly minimum.

Hi, do you have any tips to create a more elaborate masonry layout that used diff size images to create a true masonry feeling? I bought your premium option but the layout ends up looking more like a staggered 3-column than a true masonry layout with a few feature images blown up for effect. Can’t seem to get even the basic masonry layout that is provided with the free WordPress gallery. I got your theme for the added functionality and just assumed it would be on par with layout options & not just the ‘theme’ of what the border around the image looks like. If there are no further options do you offer a satisfaction guarantee? Thanks.

Digital photography in itself is a tough job. Moreover, you need to display them right to help the viewer get the real essence. That is where a theme plays an important role. These themes are amazing for a photography website.
I just spent hours activating a bunch of plugins for author boxes, and every single one of them is a huge box with NO options to reduce the size of the box. And they ALL come with an avatar space. Geez, I just want a simple, no-nonsense widget or whatever that’s big enough only to contain “Author: My Name” and one or two other lines. NOTHING MORE. What is it with all the bells and whistles? This p’s me off. Many of my posts are reviewed by the expert source and I want their name/title in the byline under mine. This means I cannot use a global author box. I also don’t want the text inside the post, as this will mess up the meta in the search results. I can’t believe a simple author box for what I want is so impossible to find.

I purchased WordPress Pro about 2 weeks ago…Sent two support tickets and did not get a response….What pixel size should the .png watermark file be for uploading via the Watermark Add-On….. I uploaded an 800 X 200 .png watermark file…Selected (images) in a designated Gallery Title Name, Selected apply, after Apply stopped spinning…Selected Update Gallery….Watermark refuses to render the watermarked image(s)

I’m very sorry, I just did a look up in our ticketing system and haven’t received either of the support tickets you’ve mentioned under this email address.
I’ve emailed you directly from my own email account. We can work from there if you’d like. There isn’t a specific size needed for your watermark needed. Depending on your gallery settings for your images, Envira will size the watermark as needed over the image.
It sounds like your server could be timing out while trying to apply the watermark to the images in the gallery. This can be a limitation of the server settings but we can work on that too. ๐

What is most important to get shallow DOF is the wide aperture of the lens, which is not mentioned in the article
Your statement ‘It will fill the image with the white color, leaving the selection around the face of the model in the image. ‘ is totally unclear. Does ‘It’ mean ‘creating the new layer’? If so, how can creating a new layer will fill the image of another layer with the white color? What do you mean by ‘ leaving the selection around the face of the model’?
Your description works until this step. The rest is not valid.

There seems to be an incompatibility between WordPress’ Photon image caching engine and Facebook.
If the go:image meta tag points to your server and the images are served through Photo, that’s where Facebook is incapable of retrieving the images.
Google Plus never has that sort of problem.
In my view, the problem comes from Facebook.

I went to Shuttersotck full of hope. I register, confirm my mail, and then ask me for my address which is was kind of weird to me, but I agreed. But then ask me for a picture of my passport or ID,… that was all my relationship with them.
I know they may have many reason to request for that but they also are a private site and a passport or ID are really sensitive information. If I have a PayPal account or any other account for received the payment I think thus should be enough.
The worst part is they ask for a fully detailed picture of the passport not only the name or the age.
Finally what is bother the most is they don’t ask for that data in the first step. You have to register, then give your address and finally when probably most people don’t agree to that ask for your passport picture, when they allready have plenty of info about you. For the ones who agreed to that, hope they don’t request blood type or something like that in the steep 4.
There is a reason – people try to post pictures that they have stolen or that infringe copyright – so they want to make sure you are who you say you are – if you get banned it is then less likely that you can just re-register. They are protecting themselves and your pictures too.

I’m curious if it is possible to insert an envira gallery on a page built and edited with Thrive Architect. Right now I am using a Thrive Theme and Thrive Architect, but for the pages on my site where I want a nice gallery of images I am just using the WordPress editor and not Thrive.

Okay, trying to make sure I understand. Your plugin automatically adjusts the number of columns. I love that. But, if I understand you correctly, I cannot have the image link to an outside page, and I cannot include captions with text links in them. Right? Because that’s what I really want to do.
I’m confused about WHEN wordpress compresses images… Is it during the upload, while in the media library, when it’s inserted to a page, when the page is loaded each time?

I click on Envira Gallery on the side of my WordPress page, then click on the gallery with the image in I want to rotate, then I click on the edit icon in the corner of the specific image and the Metadata box opens up, but there is no option to actually edit the image or rotate it? That is likely your theme. The theme probably breaks the content into the Continue Reading – but you would have to use CSS to make that link prettier. If you are using the WordPress Read More tag – then you could add the shortcode before the Read More tag (from the WordPress admin). But some themes will break up the content anyway – it really depends on the theme.

If you did a side-by-side in photoshop or something and uploaded it as 1 image or had a 2 column gallery with an image before then after (as long as itโs sorted correctly), you could probably achieve something similar. Hope that helps!
is there a way to have a video start playing when the viewer hovers the mouse over the thumbnail? I have several 6 to 10 second animated logo videos and I want the user to hover over and see it play without having to use a light box or press the play button.

I’m having an issue where I have changed the compressions settings to 100% so my thumbnails look sharp while my gallery is still compressed. Is there a way to correct?

Iโve installed Imsanity and the default setting is width 2048 x height 0. This doesnโt sound right. What should the height dimension be? Or does the restive just go on width?

In order to keep images responsive, height:0 can mostly mean height:auto;. This way the image height is proportional to the image width. Does that help?

Hi Martin ๐ I apologize, I’m not sure I understand? On the Lightbox tab of the gallery, you can set your caption position based on the Lightbox theme. When using the Base (Dark) or Base (Light) lightbox theme, the caption will always appear at the top. But all others, the caption will appear at the bottom. I updated to the new album addon yesterday and created 19 new albums with 2 to 4 galleries in each. The improvements in loading speed and display are very impressive. The one problem I have encountered is that captions are not being displayed. I have set the lightbox theme to Captioned with Float position. Captions are an important part of my galleries that give visitor vital information. If I preview the galleries outside of the album the caption appear as expected. I hope you can address this bug soon. Other than that I am thrilled with the much improved lightboxes for albums.

I would like to have much more control over where lightbox captions are placed – for example, I have a customer would would like to have the captions appear to the side of the lightbox images. (This would only apply if the viewer’s screen was large enough. On a moble device, the caption would still have to appear under the image.) And it would be nice to have the CSS selectors for the captions more exposed or documented so that I could style the captions without having to work so hard.
Also, it would be nice to implement the feature where you click on the gallery and go directly to lightbox view, without having to generate a plug-in yourself.

As for the click to open the lightbox from a link, we’re working on updating those docs as well. With this release you can now do this with a shortcode. Using something like this: [envira-link id="343"]Link or html[/envira-link]. Just change out the 343 for the gallery ID of your gallery.

Do you have tips when it comes to night aerial photos? I’ve always been stunned by night skyline so hopefully I can capture what I want. I guess I need to have a GPS tracker then, it would be much difficult finding a drone in the dark in case something happens out of hand.
Many things can go wrong in the day, so we need to be well prepared. We must have a backup plan (in case of bad weather), charged batteries, blank memory cards, think about the routes and time to get to the places and get a full day itinerary so we know what will happen in the next moment. If possible, we attend the ceremony rehearsal where a large amount of information is gathered about possible positions to shoot from the lighting, the order of the ceremony, etc.
These tips are very useful especially to people like me who love taking aerial photos. Hope to read more articles from you!

I’m trying to create my second album and it’s been a year since I created the first one. I tried to upload pictures both ways, straight into the Gallery, then into my Media File in WordPress and it only worked to upload them in my Media File even though in Gallery it said they uploaded. But when I checked all of them in my Media File to upload into Gallery, they still didn’t show up in there. In the Gallery Albums, it does show the first picture as a thumbnail for the album file. What am I doing wrong?
Thatโs not Envira. Envira uses WordPress default functionality for uploading so it sounds like a possible plugin conflict or something. Please reach out to support. They can definitely help you troubleshoot this!
I have a site with over 100 galleries. I want to enable lazy load on all of them. Is there a way to do that besides the manual click > config > check box > save for every single gallery?
No, unfortunately not. You can leave Envira Lazy Load unchecked and use JetPack lazy load instead if you wish. I hope that’s helpful!

Envira, this seems so backwards intuitively. Albums are books we slide our photos into. We all have them. We go to a gallery to view art. You could have an album in a gallery, but not the other way around. What is the reasoning behind this?
FWIW, I have to agree with Joy on this. Almost certain that Envira will not change it at this point – would be too confusing to long-time users – but based on the actual meaning of the words “Album” and “Gallery”, I’ve always found this to be a bit counterintuitive.
It might be worthwhile to contact support with any feature requests on updating this functionality. There are no guarantees, but it will be reviewed and discussed!

This method retains the file name I initially saved to, which means when I run the batch it just saves over the same file every time it opens a new one to process. I’ve solved this before, twice, but it’s years between each attempt so I forget how.

Hi, do you know if there is a way to compress more some images and don’t compress others?
Like, let’s assume I have this:

and I would like to use something like lazyload, I’ll need 2 versions of this image:
1 with low res for pre-loading and the one with ‘good res’ for loaded image.

Hi Marco, Unfortunately, no there isn’t really. When you set up a compressing function for images, thereโs no way that I know of to only target some. It would be blanket coverage. Anything like that is really customization and is outside the scope of support. Sorry I can’t be of more assistance.

I’d gladly suggest Trackimo device. It’s 3G and perfectly works indoor and outdoor. I’ve been using drones for aerial photography and it’s such a great distress when I lost one. Learnt my lesson and had this device with me ever since then. Probably the best option for me when it comes to GPS tracking devices.

The device needs a relatively clear view to work reliably. It’s got low power consumption since it’s smaller compared to other tracking devices.
Speaking of drone flyaway tendencies, since we pilot these machines in open spaces, it’s imperative to set the Trackimo device to tracking the drone per minute interval so you can see its flight direction on your phone.

After selecting the Duplicate layer and clicking on Gaussian blur, it blurs both the original layer and the duplicate layer. So this method isnt working for me. I have photoshop CS6 on mac
It sounds like either the layers are linked or possibly grouped somehow but thereโs no way it would apply it to both as long as only the one layer is selected. So, the layers could be grouped or linked. Does that help?

We donโt know of any plugin that upsizes images. Upsizing any image can make the image appear of less quality or pixelated as it would be like โstretchingโ the image.

However, it depends on what kind of freelancing you’re going to do. For instance, insurance may not be needed right away if you’re taking photos around your house and selling them on stock photography sites. To add titles under your images (not on hover but actually under the image) then you must use a column gallery and on the Config tab make sure that the Title is checked.
But there are some other considerations to be aware of. So when we layout a gallery of images, each image is typically linked to open up a lightbox. If you create a caption that has a link and then try to display that caption under the image, the HTML mark up for the gallery becomes broken because Envira tries to build an image that is a link that has text inside that is another link. You canโt have a link within a link in HTML, itโs improper markup. So what is typically best is to show a title under the image on the Config tab (title only), then edit the image in the gallery to add your link/text to the caption field. Then, on the Lightbox tab, make sure you have “caption” selected as the โwhat to show”

I don’t see an option for enabling masonry layout on the free version. Is this something that is only available with an upgrade and if so which one?

Thanks so much for your question. For Envira Lite there are 2 layouts. A masonry layout (which uses any column setting) or the Automatic layout. It can be easy to get confused over the difference between a justified layout and a masonry layout. The difference is (just so you know) is that with columns you can obviously control the number of columns that appear in the gallery. With automatic, you canโt. So quite literally – the only way to create a true masonry column is to use any column count for Envira Lite.

I love the ability to put galleries inside albums and then put those albums onto a WordPress menu using a Custom Link.
However, I was wondering if there were other ways to display the albums. Can the albums be inserted in Posts and Pages? I’ve been trying to find that information, but I haven’t been able to.
My idea would be to create twenty albums (each one containing galleries) and then display all twenty albums on a single Page. Therefore, there would be a single page that contains links to all the Albums on my site. Is that possible?

When using Envira tags I noticed that when I for exemple choose to show all images with the ‘Acrylic’ tag in a gallery it shiws this type of URL-ending:

Hey Julian, the “return 100” will disable the image compression and display the images in original condition. However, you can decrease the value to “90”, “80” or less to display compressed images in WordPress. The code is relevant with the current version of WordPress. ๐
Great post! The instructions were very clear! But for some reason when I edit pictures anytime I insert it into my blog post it reverts to the original. So my nicely cropped image reverts to its original unwanted form. Do you have any idea as to why this might be?

I am using image compresion api’s for a while now . Tiny png and cloudinary are the best out there . I dont understand how cludinary did,nt make it to the list. No other vendor can resize and compress image faster and better then cloudinary . Cloudinary is a premium service by the way . But it deserves a look.

It would be great if Envira had the ability to automatically scale gallery pics to a certain size upon upload, so that only those pics got special treatment. As it is right now, I have to scale my pics offline before I upload them, which takes longer.
I see that the method above could be useful, but I would only want that to affect my Envira Gallery images and no others. Don’t think that tool can make the distinction.

The above method is more powerful than using the Image Processor script. In addition to resizing to a fixed size, you could resize multiple images with different aspect ratios to all the same width, for example, or convert all the image’s color scheme, etc.
The Image Processor script is great if ALL you need to do is resize to a fixed WxH, but for more edits to each image, the above system would be needed.

Hi ๐ If you are using an Automatic layout, then you wouldn’t see exactly the same. You’d need to add your margin between each image by changing the Automatic margins: https://cl.ly/1S1d1B0F3T2g. But if you are using a columned gallery (as shown in the screenshots of the article) you can add the margin between the images this way through the https://cl.ly/0y0Y020L3p1V.

Is there a limit to the number of photos that can be uploaded at one time? I imported a test file with a couple of photos and it worked fine. Then I imported the real file with about 2,000 photos, but it uploads quickly with a success message and no photos loaded.
Hi Corey ๐ My name is Barbi in support and I’m happy to answer any questions for you! Envira doesn’t have any limits however there can be other reasons causing this for you. It could be that the server is timing out or it’s running out of memory trying to import that many images in one go. It could also be the hosting company is limiting this on their server configuration.
I would recommend reaching out to the hosting company and having them investigate this further for you. You may want to start by asking them to increase settings like your PHP max_execution_time and your WordPress memory but other settings may need to be increased as well to allow for that many images to be uploaded at once.

We use envira for our customers photo booth galleries but find when we upload them only parts with come up with the chosen watermark, on average we upload 200-350 images per gallery and would be greatful if you could give us some tips on how to use the watermarking function so it actually works 100% of the time.

So if I don’t pay and my theme gets updated…say in a year, my Envira Gallery won’t work anymore? And if there’s a new update I won’t be able to get it without paying? My entire website is based on this gallery…I love it obviously just hate the idea of paying for a plugin that I’ve had for so long. I feel that if I’m understanding this correctly it was “given” free just to have people depend on it throughout their website and then once their website was done you are going to basically backcharge them. Hey David, I think there’s a misunderstanding here. We’re not discontinuing the Envira Gallery Lite version on WordPress.org. If you’re using the free version, nothing will change – you’ll still be able to get updates.
This change only affects the Ultimate license version. For a while, we’ve offered a license option where you can opt to pay a one-time fee and get lifetime support and all addons and updates for life. That’s the only thing that’s changing – we’ll no longer be offering the Ultimate license.
Thanks for going over some way to get more work as a wedding photographer. I’m glad that you mentioned that it’s important to promote your work on social media channels, and to use some captions and story lines to attract visitors. Definitely sounds like it could be good to maybe test out your posts with another person, especially if it can help you fix anything about it that could make the post better.

Hi Dave, you can take help from the Facebook Debug tool (mentioned in the last step of this guide) to preview how your image will appear on Facebook. Once you get the best results, use that image. ๐

You compiled a really great list of helpful resources. However, I would like to add a few tips regarding the exposure gaining process. You mentioned using Pinterest and blogging as a great way to promote yourself, but do not forget the power of social media( I know Pinterest falls into this category, but I am talking about some other platforms. Indeed, Pinterest is a great resource, but it doesn’t provide that level of interactivity that some potential clients may need.
Platforms such as Facebook provide the opportunity to spread the content at an incredible speed (they have even some advertising services, so if you have some money to invest, I think it worth the shot).

Is it possible to import multiple images at once without selecting each single image from within a dropbox folder?
Hi Sushi, yes you need to select the photos that you want to import from your Dropbox account. However, you can talk to out support team for importing multiple images without selecting one by one. ๐

It seems possible if you click on each photo and the Insert.
But I wonder how to bulk select a bunch of photos at once, e.g. by keeping “shift” or “cmd” pressed and then only click on the first photo and the last one of those which I want to insert. So that all photos located between the first and last photo are automatically selected too.
This seems not possible. It’s also not possible to import a single dropbox-folder regardless how many pictures are inside this folder.
This is a shame for photographers and others, who want to migrate large volumes from their dropbox into their Envira gallery. At least it should be possible to insert photos from uploads-folders via Envira directly, in order to avoid upload-limits caused by the hosting-provider.

I wonder if Envira can also link images from external resources (like Dropbox, FTP, Google Photos etc.) rather than import them into the Library. This could save storage on the wordpress installation and help to prevent duplicate data ๐
Of course the source-URLs of the images should be publicly accessible or at least provide a link that only Envira-Plugin would be able to use.
This would enhance the whole process of managing images, public-galleries and client-galleries enormously.
Is this possible with the Pro-Version of Envira?
Linking the images to another storage like Dropbox. Exactly what we are looking for in the times of exploding storage amounts!

Sorry I am confused reading this post — I just switched from Nexgen to Envira. I am following the docs and the Envira slideshows are not working. Now I read about Soliloquy here on the Envira website? What’s the current status, isn’t the Soliloquy functionality already in Envira? I bought the $99 version of Envira. Thanks.

I am going to choose between Envira and Net-Gen, i love Envira’s interface and speed, however the slider is one most part of my considerations before i buy the pay version. i did many research, is that mean the Envira has to use with Soliloguy to make image sliders? i cannot find any sliders demo on Envira website, the slider addon does not do basic slider, it change the interface to album slider. there is no way to make image slider even with pay version of Envira?
Hi Shiliang, I recommend you to follow this guide. ๐ As mentioned, you need to purchase the Developers Plan of Soliloquy to create a slider. Since slider is your most important consideration, I recommend you to get the Soliloquy plugin with Developers License and get the basic Envira Plan. However, you can upgrade anytime. ๐
How can I keep my uploaded photos synced with changes I make in LR? Image adjustments sync when I re-publish, but not keywords, titles, or captions. More strange, when I do a caption or keyword change in LR to an already-published image and then re-publish, my WP dashboard shows the change to the file in the media folder, but NOT in the relevant gallery – which shows an “x” in the image edit box instead of the image and still retains the metadata fields from the preceding upload.
I have this same issue. Definitely need captions, etc. to resync.
Ah. Barbi told me about the Insanity plugin to set a maximum width and height for uploaded images. Our clients will upload unedited images that are 3000+ pixels or more because they don’t understand image dimensions. I’m going to give his plugin a try. WordPress should add this feature right out of the box.

Hi – I built my site on a staging version with envira pro and then when it was moved to the public url, the images disappeared from the galleries. The Fix button does not solve this. The galleries are still listed in the Envira tab and they have shortcode numbers and the pictures are there in the media library – just not in the galleries.

For me what works best on mac is a combination of Jpegmini and optimimage.
I usually do it 2-3 times each for the same photo until I get what I want.

Hey Tomasz, keywords in Lightroom do convert to Envira tags when you publish from Lightroom. You just need to install and activate the Envira Tags Addon. ๐
Does this mean that the Facebook sharing plugin simply won’t work properly for my visitors? I am having this problem now, where when anyone clicks the facebook icon on an image, it shares the wrong image. The solutions presented here appear only to work if I want to manually fix the post that I make. How can I fix it so that it will work properly for my visitors?
Hey Jason, Facebook sometimes miss the thumbnail from your post. One way is to go to Debugger for Facebook Developers and parse the URL of your post.
However, the easy way is what we mentioned by using Yoast SEO plugin in this post and as Keri suggested in her comment above. Hope that helps.

That’s an interesting question. So, here are the steps that I recommend:
1. Optimize your images using the tools mentioned in the article that you shared in your comment. You can crop the photo to your required size and save it for web.
2. Edit your photos in Lightroom and upload them to your site using Envira Gallery’s Lightroom Addon.

I currently shoot with a A7rii and have a A7ii as my backup. Lenses will vary but all are primes from 18mm-200mm, Ill end up swapping a few of my primes for zoom because of weight, they’re awesome but not so ideal for hiking.

I’m travelling a similar route June to August this year and have allowed the extra time to experience and feel the beauty of nature. Yosemite, Death Valley, Page, Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab, and Arches National Park is our planned route but are by passing the cities to experience our time in this great part of your country and record it in Envira Gallery.

Thank you, I stopped in many of those ares some I didn’t take a ton of photos at. I was just enjoying the views. The map posted is the actual route I traveled, the planned one had a few of those ares on it. I skipped out Monument Valley because depending on the area a license is required to use photos from the lands commercially and I couldn’t find a ton of information how to get one while there. The timeframe you’ll be there remember to bring a bit extra water it will be extremely hot in some of those areas, part of the reasoning for heading there this time a year was weather. New Zealand is on my bucket list, its such a beautiful part of this world, I want to wait until I have time to fully explore it.

Why not just use the much simpler method supplied by Adobe.
The Script section is problematic for portable (or hacked) Photoshop, which most people use. For the common usage, it’s better the batch processing.
When I run that script, I can’t resize images that are of different proportions.

Hi! Just to add, if you would like to change the permalink to an image, you could very simply edit the image, choose “screen options” on the top right corner, enable “slug”. Click “save”. Refresh the page and there should be a “slug” field that appears at the bottom. You will then be able to change the permalink via the slug option below.

Mary, I have another problem. My WP site scarab13.co was performing great, but now most of the images are broken links. I checked and realized that most of my images are somehow renamed in media library (from regular names to something like o-u-oyz2qau.jpg). I have no idea how did this happen or how to fix it. Good article – there’s one more important step that needs to be added – geotagging. This can make a huge difference.
This is very cool. One question I have is if I add the extra image sizes as you suggest in step 2, will this then allow WordPress to choose which size to display based on screen resolution? If the site is responsive then the image size required would surely change for mobile, tablet and desktop. Apologies if this is too noob!

So I have been in the market for a new camera. Been looking at Canon’s, but and torn between that and a sony. Do you guys have any input into which may be better suited for me? I wont be doing ‘professional’ photgraphy, but it is a possibility down the road. I saw on http://www.bestcamerahq.com that it had the EOS Rebel T5i rated pretty high, and after reading some reviews I think it may be a good choice. My budget is around 1,000$, my last camera was. Do any of you have any experience with the EOS T Model? Thanks for any input.

I’m Chris, the lead developer on Envira. I also happen to be a photographer ๐ I’m a Sony shooter, but have shot with friends’ cameras of all brands. In the grand scheme, all companies have some solid system, so it’s more about what you prefer. I suggest also looking at the lens line up, so when you invest in glass as the years pass by you can buy a body that has the same mount. That way you won’t have to re-invest in new lenses. The Canon t5i is a good camera and Canon has a great lens line up. With Sony, for that budget you’d be with the a6000-a6500. If you don’t need 4k video the a6000 is still a great camera and you can find that for a really good price currently. Try to find a store locally that has both models on display, hold them see if they feel comfortable in your hands. That will give you a good idea what camera feels better to be carrying around.

Unfortunately I don’t think Facebook has a way to set this up. I’d recommend using the Yoast SEO plugin as mentioned above. Then you can manually enter the image you want Facebook to use for each post. Here’s what the settings look like:
By entering your image there, you can make sure Facebook chooses the image you want.

I agree that shadow definitely can create drama in your portraits. It’s important to find a model who knows that and understands how to use shadows to their benefit. I think it would be so fun and interesting to be a photographer.

I would also like to know if you can rename the images in lightroom, so they don’t just come over as DSC123.jpg etc, and also add tags in lightroom that would also come over to envira?

Unfortunately it looks like it’s not possible to change individual file names from inside Lightroom. Here’s a video from Adobe on how and when to rename files in Lightroom that you may find useful.
You might also want to check out our article on how to bulk edit gallery images. You can use that method to add tags to several images at once, which may save you some time.

I am having the same issue as John Wright – “Envira Gallery->Settings” does not show up. Has there been any resolution to this issue?
There is so much out there by now, it’s hard to choose. I think my favorite sites are two rather new players who understand that they need to differentiate themselves. RawPixel and OneLeftMedia, although small, both provide authentic images that are distinctly different from the bulk.

The Instagram add on just displays images though, it doesn’t enable sharing of them. What are the changes you have made?

After reading your article I ranked 2 photos of my website in 2nd and 3rd position.
I’ve been looking for photo gallery software that contains 3 abilities that I thought would have been commonplace: host it myself, tag areas of a photo and add a date for timeline sorting. Little did I realize that this would be virtually impossible to find.
Since the other two don’t allow me to host my photos myself, does Envira handle the other two? I want to tag an area to identify a person or something else important in the photo, and have timeline sorting? (and if it doesn’t, any ideas where else I could look?)
Most of the stuff that I learned was actually reverse engineering other peoples actions. I can see the cause and effect of using certain adjustment layers and what effect it has after I tweak and re tweak it.

I agree– a DSLR can make a huge difference when taking portraits. I recommend using a lens with a low focal point. The lower the focal point, the more zoned in on a face you can get. I recommend searching blogs for tips.

for a photograher theme we should have minimalistic design – without many graphics element up to expose author photos.
I don’t like this website with two columns – left menu, right content, but very clear design with big good photos and very good UX it is enough for this kind of webdesign.
While it’s true that you can control almost every aspect of your site if you use WordPress, that also means you’re responsible for every aspect as well. And most photographers (myself included), don’t want to spend hours and hours every week on the website. I’d recommend something like Format.com. The site is really simple to create and modify, and the inherit photography features (like proofing and watermarking) are already there. Great article though!

For some reason that I can’t determine, the tags filtering is not animating for me. It just reloads the page with the filtered images. Is there a setting to make it animate rather than reload?
I have been using BackupGuard and have just perfect experience with it. Works great. Haven’t lost any file.
Trying out the Envira gallery that is bundled with X theme. It will not save any meta data and light box links to images suddenly disappeared while trying to save meta date – It worked initially and I was considering a 3 site license – but now, not so much. ๐
Hey Carla! It sounds like you may be having a compatibility issue with another plugin. I would try disabling all plugins except for Envira and see if that fixes the problem (then systematically turn them back on to see which one is causing the issue).
If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then you’ll want to contact X theme. Since it’s bundled, it could be a theme issue.

I like Molongui Authorship plugin better. It allows you to fully customize the author box, choose between some layouts and link to any social network profile you may have.
Honestly, I can’t imagine why you left Molongui Authorship off the list but included plugins that haven’t been updated in the last two years or more or plugins that are no longer there. But ok, I just want to contribute with a plugin I use and I think can be very helpful to many other people.

Thank you for this info, much easier than expected! I just tried on several .htaccess files in my cpanel file manager (inmotion hosting). Had to edit then undo several times because adding the code for this procedure caused a 500 error. Turns out, since I’m using InMotion’s BoldGrid as an editor, I had to choose the .htaccess file within the BoldGrid “inspirations” (themes) folder and it worked! Now the limit is 128MB! It works! But I can’t edit the extra large images, oh well… thanks again!
I am using the latest version o WP and the lastest version of Envira Lite. I just moved my site and all the pictures are gone from the gallery. I must be missing something because I cannot find the settings under Envira Gallery->Settings. I have checked the config area of some galleries, but to no avail. Am I just not seeing something?
I do not have it either. I’m wondering if that feature is only available on the paid version.

Hi, Iยดm using your plugin and I have a question, could you tell me if I can disable the name on each picture using polaroid theme ?
On a sidenote; why was there no communication about the seemingly avaliable; Zoom and Print Addons? Just found out they where there but there was no real announcement for these.
New features need some form of communication to be in the mind of customers etc. (Communication is key)
That just leaves open the formely announced comment addon (which is the main reason of my inquiry above). Any ETA on that?
PS: Sorry to be a pain but I truly believe you guys can up your communication game a bit here.

When you develop templates, please note that many of us most likely use both Envira Gallery and Soliloquy. It’s helpful to have matching features in the layouts and lightbox displays.
Would love to see BB shortcodes added for embedding images in forums.
Backup & Restore Dropbox plugin on wordpress is still the best backup plugin I have seen so far. It allows for Unlimited dropbox backups, Unlimited dropbox restores, Unlimited local backups and Unlimited local restores.
So far my experience with Envira has been horrible. I followed your instructions and a series of weird events followed.
1) the gallery wouldn’t take more than 9 pics. -I need forty in the Kitchen Cabinet gallery
2) the pictures would not show. I ran the mouse over the page and they would flash up and disappear.
3) I am not sure if the upgrade a purchased will do the slightest bit of good. And I have lost my belief in the reviews that said Envira was awesome.

It seems you are incorrect about Smugmug having ownership of photos. Per their licensing agreement, this is not true. Their agreement states they are not the content owner. You should validate information about your competitor before assuming or intentionally lying about them.
Hi Glenn, unless your images are hosted on your own site, you don’t truly have ownership over them because you don’t have complete control. While you own the copyright to your photos, Smugmug can still delete your photos at any time without your consent, as per their Terms of Service which states: “SmugMug may terminate a Subscription, or any user’s access to and use of the Subscription Services, at any time for any reason at its sole discretion, which such termination will be effective immediately.”

With this update, am I able to create a gallery that’s linked to a specific Dropbox folder, and is automatically updated as I add photos to that folder?
I would add that it is important to see the direction the light is coming from to make sure the highlights and shadows in the sky is the same as the base image. It doesn’t look right to have the sun on the left when it’s clearly shining on the buildings on the right where the shadows should be. Also, it’s a good idea to match the color balance…

I bought Envira Gallery (and installed the Dropbox plugin), but noticed an error while trying to use Dropbox. Something with not having 64-bit integers in PHP.
(I used both PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 and both generated the same result)
I use an iMac with 64-bit architecture and even my iPad has 64-bit support (if I am not mistaken). Any ideas what might cause this?
BTW, I don’t know if I should post this here, but it’s something I encountered

You’ll want to check with your host about configuring the server and PHP to be 64-bit. Make sure that both hardware and PHP will need to be 64-bit or this error can occur.
