How to Download Photos from WordPress Albums

Do you want to add the ability to download images from your WordPress albums? You may want your photography clients to be able to download their proofs directly from your website. In this article, we will share how to download photos from WordPress albums.

So you have a photography site, and you’re looking for an easier way to deliver photos to your clients. Uploading photo albums to your site and giving your clients access to download them will save you time, plus it makes your clients happy because they’ll get their photos faster.

That said, let’s look at the steps to downloading photos from WordPress albums. To add a download button to your photo albums, you’ll need to follow these 8 steps:

  • Step 1. Install and activate Envira Gallery plugin
  • Step 2. Create your image galleries in Envira
  • Step 3. Install and activate Albums and Standalone addons
  • Step 4. Create a photo album and add your galleries
  • Step 5. Install and activate Downloads addon
  • Step 6. Enable download button on images
  • Step 7. Publish photo album and copy the shortcode
  • Step 8. Add shortcode to your post/page

By the end of this tutorial, your photo albums will have a download button that looks something like this:

Ready to get started? Let’s go!

Step 1: Install and Activate Envira Gallery Plugin

First thing you need to do is install and activate Envira Image Gallery plugin.

Step 2: Create Your Image Galleries in Envira

Upon activating Envira, you can go to Envira Gallery » Add New to add a new image gallery in WordPress.

Go ahead and add your images into the Native Envira Gallery section.

After adding your images, you’ll need to hit the Publish button to save your changes. Then go ahead and repeat this process to create as many image galleries as you need.

Step 3: Install and Activate Albums and Standalone Addons

Next, you’ll need to go to Envira Gallery » Addons to install and activate the Albums and Standalone addons.

To access these addons, you must have Envira Pro or Ultimate license. Learn how to upgrade your license here.

Step 4: Create a Photo Album and Add Your Galleries

Now that you’ve activated the Albums and Standalone addons, you can go to Envira Gallery » Albums and click on the Add New button.

Start by adding a title to your album, and select your image galleries.

Step 5: Install and Activate Downloads Addon

Next thing you need to do is to install and activate the Downloads Addon. (You’ll need Envira’s Gold license for this addon.)

Go to Envira Gallery » Addons to install and activate the Downloads Addon.

Step 6: Enable Download Button on Images

Now go to the Downloads tab and check mark “Display Download Button.”

You can set the position of the download button on your photos. There’s also an option to force download images instead of opening them in a new tab on click.

Step 7: Publish the Photo Album and Copy the Shortcode

Once you are happy with your settings, simply click on the Publish button. You will need to copy the shortcode from the Envira Album Code widget.

Step 8: Add the Shortcode in Your Post/Page

Go ahead to Posts/Pages » Add New or edit an existing post/page. In the visual editor, go ahead and paste the shortcode.

Make sure to update your post/page.
